ABOUT THE GAMES

  • The Millersville Marauders (16–4, 0–0) open up the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) portion of their schedule at home against the West Chester Golden Rams (12–3, 0–0) on March 18 before hitting the road to take on the Lock Haven Bald Eagles (6–4, 0–0) and the Mansfield Mountaineers (2–6, 0–0) on the 21st and 22nd, respectively.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville has taken care of business against out-of-conference teams over the past month and sports a 16–2 mark in that span. The young Marauders even set a program record by winning 10 straight games between Feb. 26 and March 9. After falling to Shaw on the ninth, they then won six more in a row to make it 16 wins in 17 games. It's the best start to a season by record since at least 2009; the only one comparable was in 2013 when the 'Ville started out 15–4.
  • Breakout campaigns from a host of Marauders have paved the way for this team's torrid start. Tops on the list is freshman outfield Jocelyn Langer, who's burst onto the scene with a .500 average this season and took home PSAC Athlete of the Week honors on March 10. She's currently riding an 18-game on-base streak after having her 17-game hitting streak broken in game two against Bowie State on March 13. The rookie ranks third in the conference in batting average, second in runs scored (21), second in hits (30) and fifth in on-base percentage (.537).
  • A trio of sophomores have become mainstays in the middle of the lineup, and for good reason. Catcher/middle infielder Angelina Edwards has hit .369 this season and her blistering stretch from Feb. 26 to March 4 earned her Athlete of the Week honors. She batted .579 and had a 1.709 OPS in six games that week while driving in 14 runs. Edwards has been the most prolific run producer for Millersville all season and is first on the team with 29 RBI (second is Langer, with 16). Catcher/third baseman Carly Vaughan has totaled an OPS of 1.008 in 2025 and is second on the team in extra-base hits with seven. Infielder Jiana Maniscalco has also hit the ground running to begin this season and is hitting .327 thus far. Maniscalco is tied for the team lead in home runs (2) and leads the team in triples with two as well.
  • Kendra Bumgardner and Cara Mazzucco have filled out the outfield alongside Langer and provided similar offensive production. Mazzucco is second on the team in batting (.395) and Bumgardner is third (.393). Bumgardner has played centerfield, second base, shortstop and pitcher thus far in her senior season.
  • On the rare occasion the bats have gone silent, the pitching has picked up the slack. Nicolina Pezzone earned PSAC Pitcher of the Week honors on March 10 and has been dominant all season, racking up seven wins and pitching to a 1.20 ERA. Freshman Delaney Troxell has been similarly effective (1.79 ERA) and upped her game over the past week, tossing 13.1 innings and allowing just one earned run. Mollie White (1.40 ERA) and Angelina Saverase (2.36 ERA) round out the Marauder regulars in the circle.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS

  • West Chester enters this contest with a 12–3 mark and holds a seven-game winning streak dating back to March 8. The Golden Rams have two players on their roster with batting averages above .400 in Paige Marabell (.417) and Mairead Hopkins (.411). Sophomore Marabell has put up an OPS of 1.347 as a catcher while Hopkins' is at 1.200. Past that, the Golden Rams have five hitters with averages above .300 including Danielle Ciliberto, who earned D2CCA All-Region honors in 2024 after being named second team All-Region by the NFCA in 2023.
  • In addition to her .385 average, Cilberto has proven very effective in the circle this season. She's 6–2 with a 2.26 ERA and a miniscule .91 WHIP in 12 appearances including eight starts. The Golden Rams' other starter will most likely be senior Makenzie Edwards. Edwards has pitched to a 3.18 ERA in nine games and has given up just one earned run over her last three games (14.0 innings pitched). She may have a tendency to be a bit wild based on the fact that she's first in the PSAC in batters hit by pitches with 13; no one else has more than eight.

SCOUTING THE BALD EAGLES

  • Lock Haven has won its last four games entering this week after going 2–4 in its first six. The Bald Eagles first swept PSAC West foe Clarion on March 14 before breaking out the brooms once more against Holy Family on March 16. They scored 42 runs over those four games, an average of 10.5 per contest. Leading the way with the bat for them this season has been freshman speedster Blaire Balestrini, who's put up a .424 average and stolen six bases on six attempts in her 10 games played. Fellow freshman Madison Hardy brings the pop, with five home runs in 10 games and an .818 slugging percentage to pair with a .364 batting average.
  • The Bald Eagles have three hurlers with between 20 and 23 innings pitched in 2025. The most effective of them has been Keiva Middleton, who's started three games and finished all three while pitching to a 1.40 ERA. However, the junior may not be available for this one, as her last start was on Feb. 25.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

  • Mansfield has gotten off to a rocky start this season and has lost its last three, including a sweep at the hands of Bowie State on March 15. Also on the Mounties schedule is a split against Lincoln (Pa.) on March 8, a team that the Marauders downed 10-1 and 8-5 on March 12.
  • Their biggest threats with the bat have been Caydence Macik and Alex Reisinger. Macik, a junior, has put up a .294 average this season while Reisinger's average sits at .286. As a team, the Mounties are hitting .225 and have hit just one home run in their six games played.
  • Mansfield's pitching has been more impressive, as Annabella Putnam and Reilly Storer have combined to throw 35.1 innings of the 53.1 the Mounties have played this season and kept their respective ERA's below 3. Junior Putnam's season mark sits at 1.88 and she's racked 32 punchouts in her 26 frames of work; Storer's ERA is a respectable 2.90.
