YORK, Pa. - It's been over 25 years since a Millersville swimmer had a day at the PSAC Championships as Jordan Plempel did on Tuesday. The senior broke her own school record in the 400-yard individual medley twice and cruised to a runner-up finish in the finals.
It was the highest finish on record by a Marauder in any PSAC Championship event. She entered the championships as the event's No. 2 seed and swam a 4:33.11 for the top time of the prelims, besting her previous mark of 4:34.06. Plempel went even faster in the finals, touching the wall in 4:32.01, four seconds clear of the third-place finisher. IUP's Gem Crittenden took first in 4:27.38.
In the same event, Izabella Wreski placed 17th with a personal best time of 4:42.87, and Leah Eckert took 24th in 4:54.10.
Millersville also picked up team points in the 200-yard freestyle with Jewels Hepner and Claire Weaver finishing 15th and 16th respectively. Weaver's 1:54.72 was the second fastest time in school history, but she could not match that time in the finals.
It was an otherwise quiet day for the Marauders, who opened the day in fifth place and closed it in fifth with 300 points, 19.5 in front of Gannon. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hepner, Anna Sassman, Leah Eckert and Plempel placed ninth in 1:37.61--just 0.3 off the school record. Plempel, Eckert, Hepner and Mackenzie Yosko placed seventh in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:57.90.
Day three of the championships continues on Wednesday.
