MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - On Thursday, Oct. 16, Millersville University Athletics will team up with Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley to reveal the wish of a local child. The wish reveal will coincide with the baseball program's Black & Gold World Series, starting at 6 p.m.
Millersville's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) was granted the opportunity to host the special event after raising $6,500 for Make-A-Wish in 2024-25. The organization will take the lead in welcoming Silas, a 13-year-old boy from Lancaster, Pa., and surprising him with his Make-A-Wish reveal.
According to Make-A-Wish, Silas was an active athlete before a heart condition inhibited his activity. He remains an avid sports fan and supporter of the Phillies, Eagles and Sixers, rooting especially for Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and Lancaster native Nick Kurtz. Millersville alum Tim Mayza '18 is also a member of Silas' beloved Phillies.
As part of the wish reveal, Silas and his family will arrive on campus before the game, participate in batting practice and pregame activities and throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The Black & Gold World Series is an annual event for Millersville's nationally ranked baseball program, which serves as a close to fall practices.
The Oct. 16 wish reveal is the sixth time that Millersville Athletics has partnered with Make-A-Wish for an on-campus event. Millersville Athletics encourages the community to attend and show support for Silas and his family. There is no charge for admission.
"Being a part of a Make-A-Wish reveal is magical," said Millersville Director of Athletics
Kate Corcoran. "It is inspirational to our student-athletes to see how children and their families have overcome significant setbacks. We are incredibly proud of our SAAC committee's efforts to bring this event to campus, and we can't wait to host Silas and his family."
Millersville previously hosted wish reveal events in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2023. NCAA Division II has partnered with Make-A-Wish since 2003, joining with universities to provide matching funds for wish reveal events and raising millions of dollars to grant wishes to children battling critical illnesses.
