STROUDSBURG, Pa. – It looked as if the Marauders were going to steal a win early on in their doubleheader against No. 15 East Stroudsburg after a six-run first inning in game one. That was not to be the case, as Millersville scored just one more run on the day. Game one went to extra innings and the Warriors found the clutch hit in the bottom of the eighth for an 8-7 victory. The visitors' offense was stifled throughout a 6-0 loss in game two.Â
GAME ONE:
The Marauders jumped on the Warriors' starter right away. The first two batters of the game got on with singles to bring up power-hitting first baseman
Gabi Turner. She put the guests in front in a big way, sending a 1-0 pitch over the right field fence to make it 3-0. They were not done yet, as
Marli Schreiner came to the plate a few batters later with runners on second and third and one out. Schreiner sent the first pitch she saw into the gap in right-center field and cleared the bases.
Victoria Fuss would triple her home one out later and Millersville went to the bottom of the first with a 6-0 lead.Â
Â
Alex Schaefer got the start in the circle to begin the game and held East Stroudsburg scoreless until the fourth. The Warriors tallied one unearned run in that inning, the only blemish of Schaefer's first stint of the game.
Nicolina Pezzone came in to start the fifth but allowed all four batters she faced to reach resulting in two runs. Schaefer reentered after that and held the score at 6-3. Millersville added a run to its advantage in the top of the sixth, but the hosts would come all the way back in the bottom of the frame. They scored four runs on three hits, leveling the game at 7-7.Â
After a scoreless seventh and top of the eighth, the Warriors walked it off with a single to claim the 8-7 win.Â
GAME TWO:
The Marauders loaded the bases with two outs in the second inning but couldn't get the breakthrough hit to take an early lead. The Warriors did all of their damage with two outs. A solo home run put them up 1-0, and an error followed by a walk and a single brought home two more runs. The visitors would put two runners on in the fifth inning, but that second inning opportunity would be their best chance to score in the contest. East Stroudsburg added three runs in the sixth inning and finished the 6-0 blanking off with a shutdown seventh.Â

POSTGAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH JEN PROBST
- Overall thoughts: "Two tough losses. After the game, we reflected on the small wins of the day. We need to do that to stay focused because we have to get back after it tomorrow. We had 20 hits on the day against arguably the best pitching staff in the conference; we were also able to get their best pitcher out early in both games."
