'Ville wrestling rolls in clash at Cooper Park

| By:
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - On a picture-perfect November day for outdoor wrestling at Cooper Park, Millersville delivered a near perfect performance in a 32-11 rout of local rival York College.

It was the second season in a row that the Marauders and Spartans opened their dual schedules in the unique setting of Millersville's baseball stadium. The temperature touched nearly 80 degrees at match time, and Millersville mirrored that with a hot start to the match, winning five of the first six bouts and finishing with four technical falls and a major decision. Millersville has now won its last three duals against York.

The Marauders sent out a lineup that included five wrestlers competing at home for the first time, and three of them scored victories.

"We continued to wrestle well," said Millersville head coach Jerry Boland. "It's a different look than our fans have seen the last couple of years with a lot of new faces in the lineup. We are doing some different things in the room and its translating to the mat. If you watch up and down our lineup, we have good forward pressure, scoring on the line, scoring at the end of periods. I'm super proud of our guys today."

Bryce Beatty (125) and Bishop McCoy (285), coming off first-place finishes at the Glenville State Invitational, stayed perfect on the season with wins. Freshman Richie DeFulvio (149), sophomore Nick Bennet (165), and Riley O'Boyle (197) all recorded technical falls while redshirt freshman Cole Dubois and McCoy added major decisions.

"Obviously, bonus point wins are the keys to dual meets," said Boland. "Today we didn't need them with an 8-2 match split, but having that mentality is a big deal. That's what we preach in the room. There is no letting your foot off the gas pedal in the room and no letting off the gas on the mat."

In a rematch of last season, Beatty edged Jacob DelVecchio, 5-0, with all of his points coming in the final period with an escape, takedown and riding time. Cael Rossi outlasted Vincent Paolucci for a 7-3 win at 133 pounds. He held a narrow 4-3 lead before scoring a takedown in the final seconds. While York evened the match at 6-6 with Jacob Grzybek's pin at 141 pounds, the Marauders responded with DeFulvio's dominant 17-1 tech fall at 149. DeFulvio scored 14 points in the first period and ended the match 32 seconds in the second.

Senior Timothy Uhler improved to 5-1 on the season with an 8-4 win at 157. Bennet's match at 165 went the distance, but his riding time point gave him enough for a 16-1 tech fall. Dubois topped Luca Romasco 16-5 for four Millersville points, and O'Boyle clinched the team win with a dominant 18-2 tech fall. He scored 14 points in the first period with two takedowns and two four-point nearfalls. McCoy capped the victory with a 16-5 triumph. All five of his opponents' points were escapes that McCoy freely relinquished.
