ABOUT THE GAME

  • Millersville is back in Pucillo Gymnasium Tuesday for its only home game in a five-game stretch over 10 days. The Marauders are coming off a 102-98 loss at Jefferson, but they are still tied for the best record of any team in the PSAC East so far, and every statistical metric has them as one of the top teams in the PSAC. Millersville is the only team in the 16-team conference ranked in the top four in scoring average (90.3) and scoring defense (73.5). Millersville also ranks first in rebounding margin (13.0), second in field goal percentage (.510), third in free throw shooting (.778), and third in assist/turnover margin (1.25). Millersville has started 4-0 just four times in the last 25 years, and this season’s 3-0 start was only the eighth since 1984-85. Six of the previous seven times Millersville started 3-0, it went on to win the PSAC East. Millersville also moved up a spot to No. 7 in the D2CSC Atlantic Region poll, released Monday morning.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Aiden Gair has quickly established himself as one of the top shooters in the PSAC. He scored a career-high 30 points with seven 3-pointers at Jefferson. It was the most 3-pointers made by a Marauder since 2019. Of the 19 PSAC players with at least 15 3-point attempts, Gair ranks second at 51.5% and is third in makes with 17. The rest of the team has not fared as well from 3-point range, however. Six other players have combined for 10 threes and 22.2% shooting from three. Drew Stover has the second-most threes, shooting 3 of 5.
  • Stover has scored 20 points in three of four games, ranking sixth in the PSAC in average (19.3) while also ranking second in blocked shots (2.0). Of players with at least 40 shot attempts, Stover ranks first with a .738 field goal percentage. He led the PSAC in blocked shots a season ago and set a Millersville record with a .718 field goal percentage. His career .662 field goal percentage currently ranks second among all active Division II players.
  • Millersville played Saturday’s game without point guard Jahme Ested, whose streak of 65 consecutive games played came to an end. Dante Weise played a season-high 31 minutes in his place. Weise ranks third among active Division II players in career assist average at 5.71 per game.
  • Montell Cooper started his Millersville career with a PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week award and has continued to fill up the box score. He came to Millersville with 64 games played and a career-high of nine rebounds. In his first four games as a Marauder, he’s tallied two double-doubles, hauling in 13 boards against Claflin and 10 against Jefferson. Cooper has also handed out five or more assists twice, scored 14 or more points in three of four games and blocked a shot in three of four. He leads the team in rebounding, steals and assist/turnover ratio, ranking sixth in the PSAC (2.8).

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

  • Wilmington is coming off back-to-back 16-13 seasons and is 1-3 with back-to-back losses to PSAC East teams (Shippensburg and West Chester) in which it gave up 182 points. Wilmington averages 82.5 points per game, shooting 46.7% from the field and 41.3% from three with 10.5 3-pointers per game. The issue has been on the defensive end where opponents are shooting better than 50% from the field. Tuesday's game will be a reunion of sorts for Millersville's Saraj Ali and Wilmington's Manir Waller. Ali and Waller were teammates at Mansfield last season. Waller is averaging 9.8 points per game for the Wildcats. Justin Perez, a transfer from Adelphi, leads the Wildcats with 14.8 points per game. He's shooting 52.2% from three and made 5 of 6 against Shippensburg

SERIES HISTORY

  • Millersville and Wilmington played seven times between 2012-19, but Tuesday’s game is the first meeting between Millersville and Wilmington since Nov. 14, 2019--a game that Millersville won 98-87 by 30 points from Jaden Faulkner. Wilmington had won three in a row from 2016-18 and four of the previous six before that game. Millersville has scored 99 (2014) and 98 (2019) points in its last two wins over Wilmington while scoring average of 71.8 points in the last four losses to the Wildcats. Six of the last eight meetings have been decided by six points or fewer.
