BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — The Millersville women's tennis team took home a singles flight win at the Bloomsburg Invitational over the weekend in the team's first chance at competing against PSAC teams.

Lauren Hayes was crowned the winner of the third flight singles flight after two dominating wins and a marathon third match. Hayes beat Bega Gotor from East Stroudsburg 6–1, 6–4 in the first round, then coasted by Sofia Benito from Edinboro 6–1, 6–2 to advance to the finals. Going up against Diletta Mungo from California, Hayes came out on top 6–3, 6–7, 10–8. Hui Jen Soo went for the Marauders in the top flight, and won her last two matches after falling in her first. She bounced back with a 4–0, 4–0 win over Corinne Markovich from Shippensburg, and clinched fifth place with another 4–0, 4–0 win against Ariel Kelsick from East Stroudsburg. In the second flight, Chloe Abramowitz started with a 6–3, 6–3 win against Luciana Ponce from Edinboro, but was bested in her last two matches to finish in fourth place. Luci Consigliere had a similar path as Abramowitz, winning her first match but being defeated in her final two to finish in fourth place in the flight. Consigliere beat Gianina Speranza from East Stroudsburg 6–3, 6–3 in the first round. Sophie Lanius competed in the fifth flight for the Marauders, winning her second match to clinch fifth place. In her last singles match, Lanius defeated Claudia Ermina 4–0, 4–0. In the last singles flight, the seventh one, Victoria Schrader went 2–1 and finished in fifth place. Schrader fell in her first match, but beat Peyton Reese from California 0–4, 4–1, 10–8, and then was victorious against Avery Wissinger from Shippensburg 4–0, 4–1.

In doubles play, Soo and Abramowitz made up the top pair for Millersville and competed in the first flight. The duo defeated Marketa Beladova and Ximena Tellez from Shepherd 6–1 and Alexis Quackenbush and Jennifer McDonald from Bloomsburg 6–3 before falling just short in the championship match against the duo from California. Hayes and Consigliere also finished in second place in their flight, defeating Speranza and Ermina 6–0 to start, and Daria Nakonechna and Lia-Sophie Seele 7–5 leading up to the final round. Millersville's third and final duo of Lanius and Hailey Guerrero started strong with a 6–3 win over Gotor and Maya Jackson, but faltered and finished in fourth place in the third flight.

With one last match remaining in the fall season, the Marauders will look to finish strong in their next match against Daemen. Millersville will host Daemen at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at McComsey Tennis Courts.
