Men's tennis finishes fall season with 6–1 win over Daemen

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Millersville men's tennis team ended its fall season on a high note, defeating Daemen in a commanding 6–1 victory.

The Marauders nearly pulled off a clean 7–0 sweep, as Jasper de Koning and Sebas Castro won their doubles match, but Millersville was unable to secure a second doubles win to take the point. Nonetheless, Millersville dominated in singles play, winning all six matches. Lino Morin held down the top spot, winning a three-set match 3–6, 7–6, 1–0. In the second spot, Victor Suarez also made a comeback of his own, winning 2–6, 7–6, 1–0. Castro's singles match went three sets as well, coming out on top 7–6, 3–6, 1–0. The Marauders breezed through the other three matches to complete the singles sweep, with de Koning winning in the third spot 6–2, 6–2, Sandor Wulf defeating his opponent 6–2, 6–1, and Paul Bagnouls wrapping up the slate with a 6–1, 6–0 victory.

The Marauders will not play again until Feb. 14 when they'll host Salem at Hempfield Sports Center.

POSTMATCH REACTION FROM HEAD COACH MATT HELSEL
Thoughts on today and the fall season: "We have to clean up our doubles a bit before conference play next spring. Nothing major, but the doubles are so important.  The guys did a great job of settling into the singles portion and really delivering a solid, consistent effort.  Big wins out of the top of our lineup really set the tone for the rest of the guys. Losing four of our top five starters from last year, we knew we'd have some bumps as the returners step into bigger roles, but we also knew they were capable and ready for the challenge.  This team can be very successful this year and I'm excited to see what this team can do."
