Millersville secure the win to honor seniors

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Marauders matched a season-high scoring five goals while blanking Mansfield in a tribute to the team's seniors.

Madelyn Zielke scored twice, and Isabel Coy, Aubrey Strohecker, and Aalivia Wainwright both contributed a goal and assist. The Marauders improve to 5-3-1 in PSAC East play with the win.

Millersville came out strong, nearly scoring in the second minute, but was retracted due to an offside call.

Minutes later, relentless high pressure forced Mansfield to turn the ball. Kiley Marandola sprung Coy forward to score the opening goal, taking an early 1-0 lead.

The Marauders dominated the Mountaineers' defensive third and netted goal number two in the 25th minute. A string of passes from Coy to Wainwright sought out Strohecker in the box, who scored and extended the lead, to 2-0.

Still pressing the matter, Strohecker danced around two defenders and drove to Mansfield's endline, to deliver a pass of death back to Zielke. With ease, Zielke notched goal number three to extend the Marauders' lead 3-0 before the end of the half.

In a solo effort, Wainwright had a midfield breakaway, maneuvering past two defenders and the goalkeeper, tapped in goal number four.

Putting this game out of reach came from an early half-corner kick. Marandola serviced the ball into the box, Zielke, off the volley, placed it out of reach in the far right-hand corner to secure the 5-0 win.

Millersville's defense only allowed three shots and one save from Sabrina Zimmerman to log their second shutout of the season.

Millersville travels to Kutztown on Wednesday, Oct. 16 to square off with the Golden Bears at 7 p.m.
