KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Millersville women's soccer fell short in scorching heat on the road to the No. 5 Kutztown Golden Bears in a close match, 2-1.
Millersville held its ground in the beginning minutes of the game. An unfortunate own goal came from the Marauders' deflection in the 19th minute off of Isabella Rossetti's cross in the box. The Golden Bears extended their lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute with a rebound volley in the net from Lexy Endres.
The Marauders scored their first goal in the 62nd minute of play. Isabel Coy floated a shot in the corner side netting to put 'Ville on the board, 2-1. The Marauders were outshot 15-6 but Kutztown was not nearly as accurate with shots on goal only getting six on frame. The Marauders kept a high line catching the Bears offside four times.
"We adjusted at halftime and did better but couldn't find a second goal," said head coach Matt Procopio. "We fought back and that's what we can take away from the game."
The Marauders gave the Bears a fight in this match and look to bounce back in their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. against Mansfield.

POSTGAME REACTION FROM MATT PROCOPIO

Overall impression: From a performance perspective, we need to be better with first and second balls. They play a huge role in games. At the half, we changed the way we defended them and ultimately played better. Resulting in a great shot and goal by Coy.
