MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Marauders fought a tough battle against the Tigers on Wednesday night during their home opener, finishing in a 2-2 draw.
The first half was a back and forth battle between both teams. Marauders totaled seven shots, though only one found the back of the net. That goal came off of the foot of freshman Josh Rodriguez. Roy Parkyn broke through the Holy Family defense and found Zander Leik, who placed a terrific cross through the box to Rodriguez on the far side of the net.
The Marauders gained a 2-1 lead with eight minutes remaining in the second half. Senior Bob Hennessey gathered possession and found Zander Leik on the right side, who then finished the play with a well placed shot to the far side of the Holy Family goalkeeper. Holy Family, however, tied it up just over two minutes later.
POSTGAME REACTION FROM STEVE WIDDOWSON
- Overall thoughts from tonights competition against Holy Family: "Disappointing overall, and I felt like we let one slip away. Our work rate was fantastic tonight and the players worked so hard to get themselves in front but then let it slip on something we have been trying to focus on. We just weren't efficient enough in dealing with situations in and around our box, and it finally caught up with us. I cannot question the effort and endeavor from the team as it was superb. We just have to make it harder for other teams to score on us. If we can clean that but up, we will be in a good place."
