There was some pushback from The Rock in the second half, as they had two moments where they threatened to tie it. The Rock had a couple of penalty corners in the early stages of the third quarter and put two shots on net, but Koons stood tall and was able to keep the score 1–0. She got past her first defender and juked around the second into the arc, then put it right side past the pad of the goalkeeper to give the Marauders an insurance goal. POSTGAME REACTION FROM SHELLY BEHRENS
Overall thoughts on the win: "It's a nice conference win, we're excited about that. This was a tough Slippery Rock team, so this is a great road win and conference win for us."
On playing disciplined in the low-event game: "It was just about us sticking to the game plan today. And I thought we had some great moments today and we had some struggle moments. But what I really liked is that when the kids felt like they were struggling, they picked each other up, and I thought that was a super positive, especially for a road win. You know, I love that they did that. It was sticking to the game plan, you get away from it, they come back, and they help each other with it, it felt like a really good job.
"
On the team's mojo bouncing back from losses: "Nobody remembers September when you're playing and winning in October and November. One thing I appreciate about September field hockey is that it teaches us so many great lessons. And I think kids really learned a lot of great lessons. And there's so much room for growth, people don't often think that, they think we've arrived. Or they compare my field hockey team this year, to a team last year or 2014. And what they don't realize is those teams had to go through their own stuff too. So I'm really proud of the kids. We battled, played great and Shippensburg, just didn't get the result. We battled, played well against IUP, didn't get the result. So I think I think for us, it's just making the adjustments, doing the little things well, and then to stay together. And the biggest thing for us about staying together right now is working. So I'm proud of them. Slippery Rock is a tough place to play. PSAC on the road is tough."
Final thoughts: "Just a shout out to the goal scorers today, they did a great job. Obviously [Lennon] did a great job of walking in and throwing it on goal, but I really thought our goal keeping kept to the game today. Goalkeeping did a super job also against Mercy. So shout out to [Koons] for keeping us in the game for sure."
