Marauders' offense dominates in victory over Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Marauders collect their first conference win of the season with a 3-1 victory of Shippensburg. Connor Fiadino, Jake Altimore and Bob Hennessey scored goals for the unbeaten Marauders.

Fiadino opened the scoring for the Marauders with his first collegiate goal in the 17th minute of play. Fallou Cisse found Fiadino in the box, placing a long ball just through the Raiders' defense.

In the 53rd minute, Jake Altimore tacked on a second goal on a penalty kick. Hennessey then finished it off for the Marauders' offense with his fourth goal of the season in 55th minute of play. The assist for Hennessey came on an against the grain cross from Mike Kreider. It was the second time this season that the two seniors combined for a goal.

POSTGAME REACTIONS FROM HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON

  • Thoughts on the success of the offense: "It was really a game of two halves offensively. We didn't create much or connect in the first half. However, we adjusted a couple of things at halftime and instantly got some good impact. We were much more fluid and threatening in the second half and able to increase our lead from the first half."
  •  What is going to make a difference for this team is conference play: "Conference play is about getting results early and building momentum. We need to find a level of consistency from which we can keep improving game by game."
  • Preparation for Saturday's competition versus Lock Haven: "Our focus is always the same. Stay humble and keep looking forward. We can quietly enjoy our result from today and then we need to prepare for another very tough, solid, PSAC opponent.
