Career days from Blankenbiller and Wright lead Marauders past Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. - Millersville starting pitcher Garet Blankenbiller tossed seven shutout innings, and Tyler Wright recorded a career-high four hits as the 13th-ranked Marauders built an early lead and held on for a 12-7 win over Wilmington Tuesday.

Blankenbiller (4-0) posted a career-high in innings pitched and struck out five while scattering six hits. Blankenbiller has now allowed just four earned runs in 29 1/3 innings this season. Wright finished his day with a triple, double and two singles. As a team, Millersville totaled 13 hits and drew 10 walks. Freshman first baseman Matthew Williams drew three of those walks. Keegan Soltis, hitting in the leadoff spot for the first time all season, reached base three times and scored three runs. Bren Taylor reached base four times with two hits and two walks. He's reached base in 34 of 36 games.

Wilmington utilized eight pitchers in the mid-week game, and starter Anthony Giordano lasted just 1/3 of an inning as four of the first five batters reached base--three via walk. Millersville managed double-digit runs with just three RBI base hits. The Marauders scored four runs on wild pitches, drew a bases-loaded walk, scored twice on Wilmington errors, one on a sacrifice fly from Thomas Caufield, and one on a fielder's choice.

The Marauders scored three in the first inning and built a 12-0 lead before Wilmington finally broke into the run column in the bottom of the eighth. Wilmington put at least one runner on base in five of Blankenbiller's seven innings, but the Marauder sophomore navigated through trouble to keep the Wildcats scoreless. Wilmington scored five runs in the ninth on three hits, four walks, a hit batsman and an error. The bases were still loaded when Evan Rishell entered the game to get the final out.

After going 20 years without a win at Wilmington, Millersville has now won at the Wildcats' home park in back-to-back seasons, scoring 25 runs in the two games.
