MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - For Millersville football, the culmination of spring practices is on Friday, April 21 with the annual Black & Gold Spring Game at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. The game begins at 7 p.m.
This year's game features the offense and the defense competing in a series of four challenges with points awarded to either unit based on performance. The challenges include "Move the Ball," which gives the offense an opportunity to drive for points and the defense a chance to score points with stops and turnovers. A "Red Zone" challenge follows with the offense receiving four drives from the 20-yard line and must score 20 points to win the challenge. A "Fourth Down Challenge" is 15 plays with a point awarded to the offense for picking up the first down and the defense earning a point for a stop. The game closes with a "Two-Minute Drill," which is a best two-out-of-three challenge in a two-minute drive situation.
Head Coach J.C. Morgan enters his fifth season at Millersville, and the close of the 2022 season built optimism for 2023 as the Marauders won five of its final seven games for its most wins since 2006 and most PSAC East wins since 2000. Morgan now boasts the most veteran roster of his tenure with 81 players returning in 2023.
Among the returners and competing in Friday's spring game are three-time All-PSAC East linebacker Isaiah Onuschak, first team linebacker Garrett Cox, first team punter Zach Banta and former All-PSAC East selection Steve Sweeney. The Marauders also return leading passer Robert Footman Jr., and top receivers Mekhi Alexander, Hakim Melvin, Kameron Taylor and fourth-year starting tight end Brian Richardson. The Marauders also return the entire offensive line intact. It was a bunch that paved the way for running back Jaheim Morris to earn All-PSAC East honors and 1,200 rushing yards over the final seven games.
