LANCASTER, Pa. - With just four healthy players in the lineup, the Millersville men's tennis team faced a tall task against PSAC-leading Edinboro Saturday. The Marauders' one win in doubles wasn't enough as they fell, 7-0.
Weather forced the match indoors at the Hempfield Sports Center. Edinboro improved to 15-3 overall and closed its PSAC schedule at 6-0, clinching in the No. 1 seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament. The Marauders' conference record dropped to 4-2 and locked them in to the No. 3 seed.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• A strong 6-1 win from the top Millersville tandem of
Dylan Tull and
Zach Pernia started the Marauders on the right foot, but a less-than-100%
Lino Morin and
Jasper de Koning dropped a 6-2 decision to Manav Sreekumar and Thibault Dorval in the No. 2 flight. Millersville's forfeit at No. 3 secured Edinboro the doubles point.
• Millersville needed a sweep of the four contested singles matches, but Bruno Sabio handed Tull his first PSAC loss of the season, 6-2, 6-3.
Zach Pernia pushed Sreekumar to a third-set tiebreaker, but fell by a 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 final. With Morin sidelined, de Koning played in the No. 4 flight for the first time since October and dropped a hard-fought, 6-2, 3-6, 10-4 match to Gustavo Martins. de Koning had won his previous six matches.
• Tull and Pernia finished their PSAC schedule with a spotless 6-0 record.
