Softball wraps up non-conference schedule with sweep of Bowie State

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville softball team scored 19 runs in two games on Wednesday to wrap up its non-conference schedule with a sweep of Bowie State.

The Marauders took game one by a score of 11-2 in five innings behind three RBI's from both Aleese Angelo and Gabby DiOttavio, and a solid four-inning outing from Kendra Bumgardner in the circle. The second win featured a two-RBI game from Alyssa Stover, D'Ottavio and Sam Fried as the score showed 8-4 at the end of the seventh.

Millersville improves to 21-19 this season and will now look towards the final stretch of its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East schedule.

GAME ONE
  • Both Bowie State and Millersville scored a pair of runs in the first two innings, leaving the game tied after two. The Marauders scored both runs in the first inning, one on a passed ball that allowed Bumgardner to cross home and the other on a Gabi Turner RBI that scored Allyson Black.
  • Alyssa Stover would give 'Ville a 3-2 lead in third-inning action after drawing a bases-loaded walk that scored Angelo.
  • The Marauder offense erupted in the fifth, scoring eight runs on seven hits to force a mercy rule win. Black started the inning with a triple, which was followed by an Angelo walk and a D'Ottavio three-run homerun.
  • Angelo ended the game with a walk-off, three-RBI triple.
  • Bumgardner allowed just one earned run in four innings while striking out five Bulldog batters.
  • Both Angelo and Black recorded three-hit games in the win.

GAME TWO
  • Millersville started game two with a three-run first inning that featured RBI's from Fried, Stover and Turner, which gave them a 3-1 lead after one.

  • 'Ville and Bowie State would each score two runs in the final four innings, leading to the 8-4 victory.
  • Angelina Saverase picked up her first win of the season after throwing two scoreless innings in relief and striking out a pair of batters.
