Marauders run to 2-0 with 9-3 win at Barton

BARTON, N.C. - Jimmy Losh had three hits, and Carson Kulina pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings in relief as Millersville baseball defeated Barton 9-3 to improve to 2-0. Game two of the scheduled doubleheader reached the second inning before it was canceled because of rain.

The win gave Millersville just its third 2-0 start since 2004. Millersville's patience at the plate was key on Sunday as it drew 10 walks to go with 11 hits. In addition to Losh's single, double and triple, Bren Taylor reached base four times with a double and three walks and also drove in a team-high two runs. Freshman Matthew Williams doubled and walked twice, and John Seibert hit the first triple of his career while also drawing a walk. Dale Houser went 2-for-4 with a walk.

After scoring two runs in the top of the third, Millersville fell behind briefly as Barton capitalized on a pair of walks and an error for a three-run inning. Millersville, however, scored seven runs in the next five innings while holding Barton scoreless on just four hits.

Ben Wilchacky surrendered one earned run in his three-inning start before Kulina made his Marauder debut. Kulina struck out six and allowed five baserunners. Williams moved from first base to the mound and struck out four in 1 2/3 innings.
