LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Following a season in which Millersville men's soccer secured first place in the PSAC East, Bob Hennessey was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Year, Aaron Maynard was voted PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Year and head coach Steve Widdowson landed PSAC East Coach of the Year honors.
Hennessey and Maynard were also named All-PSAC East First Team, and Jake Altimore earned second team recognition as a defender. Widdowson is now a five-time coach of the year award winner.
Hennessey, is the eighth Marauder in program history to win the athlete of the year award and the first since 2019. The redshirt senior led his first-place club in nearly every offensive category. Hennessey scored seven goals and produced five assists for a total of 19 points. He ranked 10th in the conference in goals, assists, and points. His clutch performances provided four game-winning goals, just two off the conference lead. His five assists boosted his career total to 16 and moved him into the top 10 all-time at Millersville tied with Rob Waddell (1990-1994) and Jaime Vazquez (2012-2015).
Maynard is now a two-time winner of the defensive athlete of the year award and just the second to win it twice in the 10-year history of the award. The center defender has logged 58 starts and more than 5,000 minutes in his three seasons. In 2023, the 'Ville defense allowed just 15 goals, matching a program record set in 2009 and 2015. Maynard's athleticism has allowed him to contribute to the team on both sides of the field as well. Maynard fired eight shots on net with a goal in the regular season finale victory over Shepherd. Maynard remains the only defender Millersville program history to receive this award.
Widdowson was named as PSAC East Coach of the Year for the third time (2008 and 2019), and he also won the PSAC Coach of the Year awards in 2007 and 2015. Since taking over this program in 2007, Widdowson has led this program to three PSAC Championships, 13 PSAC Tournament appearances and seven NCAA Tournament appearances. The Marauders have also won the PSAC East three times. Widdowson is the program's career wins leader with 198 wins and 121 conference victories. Widdowson's Marauders won three consecutive PSAC titles from 2018-2021, and he guided the Marauders back to a No. 1 seed in 2023 after the team narrowly missed the postseason in 2022.
Altimore, a defender, played an unsung role for the first-place finishing Marauders. In his 1,267 minutes this season, Altimore helped the Marauders rank third in the PSAC in goals against average while totaling eight shutouts. He also contributed on the offensive end with seven shots and a goal scored.
As a No. 1 seed, Millersville is set to play in the PSAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m., at Gannon University. Information and tickets are available here.
