MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville field hockey team defended home turf against the Coker Cobras, winning 3–1 on Sunday afternoon. The Marauders are now 8–4 on the season.
The Marauders got off to another good start offensively, immediately creating chances offensively before the Cobras could settle in. Around the halfway point of the quarter,
Bri Harsh had the ball to the left of the net and drove to the goal line.
Qhayiya Nogoduka's defender left her to pressure Harsh, and Harsh dished it to Nogoduka who buried it for the first goal. A couple minutes later, the Marauders had
Kortlin Yetter take a penalty corner, who passed it to the top of the circle to
Caitlin Wassermann. Wassermann settled the ball and shot it without hesitation and put the Marauders up 2–0.
Coker was able to push back in the second quarter, nearly scoring in the first two minutes, but
Taylor Geisel made a defensive save. However, Coker was still able to score shortly after, getting a goal from Wibien Dahmen to make it 2–1. After that tally five minutes into the frame, the Marauders had a couple chances to get the goal back but were unable to score before the half.
The third quarter had the most action for both teams even though there were no goals. The Marauders had five shots in the first three minutes of the frame, but the Cobras defense stood tall and made a couple of saves to keep it a one-goal game. In the last couple minutes, the Marauders defense broke down and Coker was able to get a breakaway opportunity to tie the game. Dahmen got an angle at an open net, but racing back was
Caroline Griffin to make the defensive save and keep the Marauders in front.
Millersville was able to lock down defensively in the fourth quarter, preventing the Cobras from registering a shot attempt in the final frame. The Marauders got an insurance goal late in the fourth quarter, as
Kortlin Yetter was able to redirect a ricocheted ball from outside the circle behind the Cobras goalkeeper for her first goal of the season.
The Marauders resume PSAC play against West Chester at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11 in West Chester, Pa.

POSTGAME REACTION FROM SHELLY BEHRENS
- Overall thoughts on the win: I'm glad we won the game. I don't think it was our best outing. Playing back-to-back, it's not an excuse, but I think it really challenged us to where we can be better. So for that, I'm thankful.
- On the team's performance in back-to-back games: It's a really tough challenge. And I was on them a bit today because I think we could have responded better. And I think when we stick with our structure, we do well. It's tough mentally, physically, and emotionally to play back-to-back games, but I want to challenge us. I'm always going to challenge us to be in that better position. I'm not going to take it easy on us, and so I think it's a great growing point. Credit to Coker, they're a good team. But I think for us, we could be a lot stronger, and that's what we look forward to doing.
- On improvements for the next game: With respect for Wednesday, we'll think about Wednesday in 24 hours. We have a 24-hour rule for us coaches too. We know our opponent really well. We love playing Westchester. We love playing them [in West Chester] and it'll be a great game as always.
