WEST CHESTER, Pa. – It was a goal with under a minute to play that propelled unbeaten No. 5 West Chester to a 2-1 victory over Millersville in Wednesday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contest.
West Chester (9-0-0, 8-0-0) took control early on -- collecting the match's first lead before time passed 10'. Golden Ram, Lauren Corless took a shot that was blocked before Nicolette Harrison recovered the miss roughly 10 second later and was able to deliver a goal to earn an early 1-0 advantage. Neither team would manage to score for the remainder of the first 45', giving West Chester a lead at the break.
Millersville (1-6-2, 1-5-2 PSAC East) found an equalizer in the 51'.
Aalivia Wainwright tapped a ball to a sprinting
Isabel Coy who split the West Chester defense and scored her first career goal, evening score at 1-1.
The match stayed knotted at 1-1 for the better part of second-half play until a loose ball in the Marauder box found the right foot of Golden Ram forward Jacqueline Hug, who sent in the game-winning goal with 89:24 showing on the game clock. Following the score, 'Ville moved the ball quickly towards the Golden Ram goal looking for an equalizer. The Marauders would earn a free-kick opportunity that was sent into the WCU box; however, a whistle would signal an offsides call against the Marauders, leading to the 2-1 final.
Despite the loss, Millersville went toe-to-toe with the nation's fifth best team and almost took them the distance --
Reagan Kolinski and the defense played a large role in that. Kolinski, in her first game back from injury, allowed just two goals while facing 24 shots and making eight saves, three of which were back-to-back-back in the 84'.
