ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville men's soccer team has gotten back on track over the past couple matches after hitting early roadblocks against Ashland and Wilmington. The Marauders have won their previous two contests by a combined score of 5-2, with the most recent victory coming over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Foe, Shepherd. The group will look to continue its strong play against a 2-1 Shippensburg team that is coming off a three-goal loss to West Chester. The Raiders are set to visit Pucillo Field on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. .
  • Historically, Steve Widdowson coaches teams have faired well against the Raiders with a 15-2-2 record since his arrival in 2007. Millersville hasn't dropped a match to Shippensburg  since 2015 and is currently on a four-game winning streak against the Raiders.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville has been able to string together several scoring opportunities in the past five games. The Marauders are outshooting opponents 69-45 (31-16 on frame) and hold a 31-20 edge in corner kicks.
  • Freshman, Christian Bowles leads the Marauder offense with three goals, which ranks fourth in the PSAC, and six points. He's joined by fellow freshman Zander Leik and sophomore Richy Valverde who each have two goals.
  • Spencer Shortt, the Marauders' leading facilitator a season ago, has picked up where he left off, sending out a team-high three assists which ranks second in the PSAC.
  • Bobby Bosch has recorded two shutout victories this season and ranks second in the conference in shutouts per game. Defenders, Aaron Maynard, Mike Kreider, Jake Altimore and Ronnie Minges lead the Marauders in minutes played and figure to continue paying large roles in stopping opposing offenses.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS

  • Shippensburg began its 2022 season on fire, knocking off PSAC West opponent Slippery Rock 3-0 before traveling to Philadelphia and taking down Jefferson 2-0. However, the Raiders' hot start came to a screeching halt against West Chester last Wednesday. The Golden Rams were able to hold Ship scoreless while sending three goals past the Raider keeper.
  • Shippensburg is led on offense by Seth Crabbe, who has recorded four goals in three games off just six shots on goal. The only other Raider to score this season is Chase Estes.
