MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville women's soccer team (0-2, 0-1 PSAC East) dropped its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East opener at home Wednesday night to Lock Haven (3-0, 1-0 PSAC East), 1-0.
The Marauders looked to be in control of the match throughout virtually the entire first half, outshooting the Bald Eagles 8-2 in the first 40 minutes of action and sending four of those shots on-frame. However, Lock Haven was able to put the ball in front of
Reagan Kolinski and the Marauder net with less than a minute remaining in first-half action, this resulted in a Bald Eagle go-ahead goal from Sydney Bolles that proved to eventually be a game-winning score.
Both of Millersville's shots in second-half play came before the 60',
Maddie Zielke sent a shot on-goal in the 59' that Bald Eagle keeper, Megan Miller would take in. One of the Marauders' more promising offensive opportunities after that would come in the 74' when
Emma Elwell found herself pursuing a 50/50 ball in the Lock Haven box with a Bald Eagle defender. The two players collided, resulting in the Bald Eagle defender falling on the turf, which Elwell was given a foul for. After arguing the call, she was given her second yellow of the contest, making it a red and forcing the Marauders to play a woman down for the remainder of the match.
Millersville wasn't able to capitalize on any opportunity after that, resulting in the loss.
POSTGAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO
•
Thoughts on the loss: "I thought our performance tonight was better, however, we had one specific moment where we switched off and it ultimately cost us the game."Â
•
On the quality opportunities created: "We had every opportunity to win the game, but we didn't take our chances. Offensively we created, but we didn't convert. We did make some changes, so that does impact things, but we need to be more clinical in converting our chances into goals. We need to improve our overall technical quality – better touches, better shots."
