MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Millersville University Director of Athletics Miles Gallagher has announced Darian McCauley as a full-time assistant for both the men's and women's soccer programs ahead of the 2022 season. McCauley, a 2019 graduate of Millersville, will split his duties between both programs and work mainly with goalkeepers. He served as a volunteer assistant for the men's soccer program during its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Title and NCAA National Quarterfinal run in 2021.
McCauley begins his full-time coaching career at Millersville following a stellar four-year career as head coach Steve Widdowson's star goalkeeper. The York, Pa. native started 75 games for the Marauders, resulting in a program-high 24 shutouts and the second most wins in program history with 42. He helped the program to back-to-back PSAC Titles in 2018 and 2019 and was awarded PSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player award in 2019. Along with his contributions to the team's success, he was named All-PSAC East First Team in 2019 and was a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region selection. Following his colligate career, he was signed by the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer League (USL) and is now a member of the Harrisburg Heat, who compete in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL).
"Darian has already been on our staff as a volunteer and has more than proven his value to the program in that time," said Widdowson. "Now that we are able to add him as our paid assistant, he will provide an even greater depth of value. Darian is extremely familiar with our program's standards and expectations and will be a great resource for both young and older players in their development. Even more importantly for the general soccer outlook at the university, Darian's experience and enthusiasm can now also be utilized on the women's side and this makes his addition to the athletic department absolutely invaluable. I am excited to see the benefit that both programs will undoubtedly gain from Darian's enthusiasm and dedication."
McCauley will also join head coach Matt Procopio's staff on the women's side. A program that has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in two of the last three seasons and is coming off a PSAC runner-up finish in 2021.
"Darian will be a great addition to our program," said Procopio. "He had a tremendous playing career here at Millersville and enjoyed some time playing professionally as well. Having him work with our goalkeepers daily will be invaluable to our goalkeepers development and out team overall. He knows Millersville and the area very well so he will be a great asset in recruiting too. We look forward to the impact he will have in our program."
