MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -Â The NCAA revealed its first regional rankings Wednesday, and Millersville, which came in at No. 4 in the Atlantic Region, received a boost to its strength of schedule with a 17-10 victory over a 28-win Frostburg State club at Cooper Park.Â
Sam Morris hit his second grand slam of the season,
Keegan Soltis hit a solo shot and catcher
John Seibert hit a three-run blast as part of a seven-run fourth inning. Twelve of Millersville's runs were scored with two outs. The 17 runs were the most scored by the Marauders since March 20.Â
Seibert and Morris combined for seven RBIs. Soltis,
Jimmy Losh and
Tyler Wright all had two hits. Losh reached base four times with a single, double and two walks.
Luke Trainer also reached base four times with three walks and an RBI double.Â
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• The howling wind to left field seemed to set up a big day for the power-hitting Bobcats, which came into the game averaging 1.5 homers per. And A.J. Campbell's two-run homer sparked a four-run third inning that put the Bobcats on top, 4-2. But Millersville showed off the pop in its lineup. With one out in the fourth,
Bren Taylor hit a grounder into a shift, and it looked liked a certain inning-ending double play. The shortstop stepped on second base for the inning's second out but sailed the throw to first, which allowed Taylor to reach second base. That one mistake was all the Marauders needed to get rolling.
Thomas Caufield and
Luke Trainer followed with back-to-back doubles, and
Keegan Soltis was hit by a pitch. A pitching change made no difference as Seibert muscled a no-doubter to deep left field, putting the Marauders up, 8-4.
Jimmy Losh, who drove in Millersville's first run of the inning, plated another with a bases-loaded walk.Â
• Morris cleared the bases with his grand slam in the fifth. Soltis' solo homer came with two outs in the sixth, and Millersville's three-run eighth included a double from pinch-hitter
Taso Kovack, and
Garrett Lowe's first career hit and RBI.Â
• The Marauders utilized six pitchers. Starter
Garet Blankenbiller totaled seven strikeouts in three innings.
Harry Prince (1-0) got the win after pitching the fourth and fifth innings.
Nate Young and
Christian Wingard pitched scoreless innings as well. The staff held Frostburg State's top hitter, Bryce Jackson, in check. Jackson entered the game with a .916 slugging percentage--the second-highest mark in the nation--and finished the day 0-for-3 with a strikeout and walk.Â
