'Ville men's tennis tops Shepherd, 6-1

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Even without Carlos Martinez-Lucas in the singles lineup, the Millersville men's tennis team had no problem dispatching Shepherd 6-1 Monday.

The win moved the Marauders back above .500 at 7-6 overall and 3-2 in PSAC action. The Marauders were aided by Shepherd's forfeit at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

Millersville has now won four of its last five matches.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Martinez-Lucas and Frank Yanni continued to climb Millersville's single-season wins list (now fifth with 18 wins) by cruising to a 6-0 win over Yuto Shimotsuji and Joseph Michael. Santiago Ramos and Zach Pernia, Millersville's usual No. 3 team, bumped up a spot in the lineup and took a 6-1 loss, snapping a four-match winning streak. Millersville clinched the doubles point thanks to Shepherd's forfeit.
• The Marauders shifted their singles lineup as well with Martinez-Lucas sitting out. Yanni played in the top spot for just the second time this season and fell in a barnburner to Sebastian Sevilla, 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 1-0 (10-8). The other four Marauders won in straight sets without dropping more than three games in any set.

UP NEXT
• Millersville hosts West Chester Tuesday at McComsey Tennis Courts and a win would solidify the Marauders as the No. 3 seed in the PSAC Tournament.
