SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Millersville women's tennis team swept Shepherd 7-0 Monday for its fifth-straight win, setting up a battle for first place with West Chester Tuesday at McComsey Tennis Courts.
The Marauders' record improved to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC East. Monday's opponent, Shepherd, dropped to 5-6 (1-1), while Tuesday's opponent, West Chester is 5-0 in league play and can clinch the division with a win at Millersville. The Marauders still have four PSAC East matches on the schedule but can gain the head-to-head advantage over the Golden Rams with a win.
Two of Millersville's last three PSAC East wins have come via shutout. The win also gave Millersville 10 victories for the first time since 2004-05.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville had no problem dispatching Shepherd as
Julie Wallace and
Noelle Htwar teamed for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and
Maria Ojeda and
Chloe Abramowitz bumped up to No. 2 doubles and won, 6-0.
• Singles played out in similar fashion with the Marauders taking all five contested matches. Millersville players shutout opponents in five of 10 sets and did not surrendered more than three games in any set. With usual No. 1
Jasmine Morris not in the lineup, Ojeda moved into the top spot for the fifth time and won 6-0, 6-3 to improve to 2-3 at No. 1 singles. Htwar played in the No. 2 spot and won her fourth-straight dual. Wallace improved to 5-2 at No. 3 singles. Abramowitz won her sixth-straight decision.
