Softball splits doubleheader with Bloomfield

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville Marauders split their Friday doubleheader against Bloomfield, winning game one by a final of 10-2 before losing game two 2-0. The Marauders hit two home runs in game one and Morgan Crutcher provided a complete game, four-hit performance in game two, but the Marauders were unable to record a hit.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: Millersville 10 – Bloomfield 2 (six innings)
  • The Marauders broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth when Kendra Bumgardner sent a ball over the left field wall.
  • Bumgardner's homer was followed by a Sam Fried single, who was drove in by an Aleese Angelo single to put 'Ville up two. Hunter Little then kept the inning going with a double to center field, driving in Angelo to make it a 3-0 game. Gabi Turner capped off the big scoring inning, homering to center field to put the Marauders up 5-0 entering the 5th.
  • The Marauders started the 5th inning with a ground-out followed by four straight walks, two of those baserunners, Gabby Vuovolo and Angelo scored on wild pitches, while Hunter Little reached home on an Alexis Harkins groundout to short. The three runs gave Millersville an 8-1 lead through five.
  • Millersville was able to walk-off the game in the bottom of the sixth, earning five straight walks, including two runs, to take the top-half of Friday's doubleheader in six innings.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Schaefer improved to 5-5 with the win.
  • Millersville outhit Bloomfield 10-2, while the Bears committed the only error of the game.
  • The Marauders hit two home runs.
  • Millersville picked up five strikeouts in the win, while Bloomfield struck out four.
  • Turner led the offense, going 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run, walk, and two RBIs.
  • Angelo and D'Ottavio each had multi-hit games for the Marauders.
GAME TWO: Bloomfield 2 – Millersville 0
  • Neither team was able to score until the 5th inning of play, when Daniela Vidal reached first on an error and Deja Robinson scored  from second.
  • The Bears then earned an insurance run in the top of the 6th off another Marauder error, giving them a 2-0 lead.
  • Bloomfield saw Taylor Galyean provide her most dominate performance of the season today, throwing seven innings, with 15 strikouts, and allowing no hits.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Cruthcer fell to 5-5 following the loss.
  • The Marauders were shut out for the fourth time this season.
UP NEXT
Millersville returns to Seaber Stadium for a doubleheader against Indiana (Pa.) this Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
