ABOUT THE GAMES

  • Since losing to Shippensburg on Jan. 10, Millersville has won eight in a row--its longest winning streak in PSAC play since 2002-03. A win on Wednesday would give Millersville its longest PSAC winning streak since 1993. The common thread between the 1992-93 and 2002-03 teams is that both won the PSAC East. The 2021-22 Marauders currently sit a half-game behind Shippensburg for first place in the division. Millersville is also looking to win its fifth-straight road game for the first time since 2006-07--another season in which the Marauders won the East.
When we played them at home, it was one of our top two or three worst games all year, but they are really good and well coached and have a winning culture. We have to play better than we did in the first meeting. But we will take it easy on the guys tomorrow, make it more of a mental day. We will be ready to go.
Casey Stitzel, Millersville head coach

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Shippensburg is 6-3 at home this season and has won seven in a row at home against Millersville. The Marauders’ last win at Heiges Fieldhouse came by a 61-54 score in 2015. Shippensburg has won the last seven meetings and 11 of the last 13 against Millersville. The two wins were the only games in the stretch in which Millersville scored more than 80 points. Millersville has scored fewer than 70 in six of the last seven vs. Shippensburg.
  • Millersville’s three 1,000-point scorers are climbing several career record lists. Khari Williams’ 1,288 points is 24th all-time and he’s 11 points away from moving up one more spot. James Sullivan’s 1,192 points recently moved him ahead of Coach Casey Stitzel’s father, Glenn, for 28th in scoring. Sullivan also ranks seventh in career steals, eighth in 3-pointers made and is 17 assists from the top 10 in that category. Caden Najdawi’s 1,159 points ranks 31st. He also ranks eighth in rebounding and is 14 blocks shy from fifth all-time.
  • Six Marauders have scored 20 points in a game before, and Sullivan, Williams and Faulkner have hit that mark four times each in 2021-22. Millersville has had six different players lead the team in scoring this season.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS

  •  Expect a low-scoring game Wednesday as Shippensburg ranks fourth in the PSAC in scoring defense (65.2) and Millersville is fifth. Millersville is first in 3-point shooting defense, and Shippensburg is second. The Raiders have held six consecutive opponents to fewer than 70 points. Shippensburg is just 2-4 when allowing 69 or more points. The Raiders feature a balanced offense with four players averaging double figures. Rashon Johnson averages 16.3 points per game, ranking 14th in the league.

THE LAST TIME OUT

  • Millersville: Millersville 74, Kutztown 59 (Jan. 31, 2022) Caden Najdawi converted a three-point play on the game's first possession, and it was a sign of what was to come for the Millersville Marauders, who led wire-to-wire and routed Kutztown 74-59 in Keystone Hall Monday evening. Najdawi, named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, exhibited his offensive skills against the Golden Bears, scoring a game-high 17 points and adding 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.
  • Shippensburg: Shippensburg 72, East Stroudsburg 58 (Jan. 29 2022) - Shippensburg  shot 57 percent from the field and 66 percent (6-of-9) from three-point range in the first half to gain a 15-point halftime lead on the Warriors. Redshirt-junior Rashon Johnson scored 16 of his game-high 27 points in the first half.

SERIES HISTORY VS. SHIPPENSBURG

  •  On Monday, Millersville scored its largest margin of victory in a game at Kutztown since 1993. Already this season, Millersville has earned its first win at West Chester since 2013 and its first win at East Stroudsburg since 2009. The Marauders are 7-2 on the road with the defeats coming against nationally-ranked IUP and Cal U, who have a combined record of 32-6. While winning on the road, the Marauders haven’t been nearly as dominant, out-scoring teams 71.6-67.9 on the road compared to an 83.1-66.0 average at home. The only significant difference in the home/road splits for the Marauders is in the shooting percentages. Millersville shoots .443  from the field and .315 from three on the road compared to .487 from the field and .354 from three at home.
  • The Last Meeting vs. Shippensburg - Shippensburg 75, Millersville 64 (Jan. 10, 2022) Shippensburg won behind 19 points from Kyon Hardy and 17 from Carlos Carter. Millersville was led by Caden Najdawi’s double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Raiders got out to a 42-32 lead at the half largely because of fast-break buckets off Millersville miscues. Millersville’s 10 turnovers translated to 19 Shippensburg points in the opening 20 minutes. Then, after Millersville out-rebounded the Raiders 20-12 in the first half, Shippensburg held a 26-18 edge in the second half, including 10 offensive boards that 13 points. Millersville also missed all eight of its 3-pointer attempts in the second half and finished 4-of-19 for the game.
