No. 4 West Chester comes from behind to edge No. 5 Millersville

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - No. 4 West Chester scored twice in the second half to pull off a come-from-behind win over visiting No. 5 Millersville in a non-conference match-up Wednesday evening.

West Chester (14-3) improved to 10-1 at home and won its fourth-straight game thanks to a third quarter goal from Claudia Jaszczak and a fourth quarter goal from Paige Wolfe. After Kate Strickland's tally in the second quarter gave the Marauders a lead, Millersville (13-4) managed just one shot the rest of the game and was held without a shot in the entire second half.

West Chester's win evened the season series at 1-1 with the teams each winning on home turf.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• All six of Millersville's shots were taken in the second quarter while West Chester recorded at least two shots and at least one on goal in all four. West Chester controlled play for the entire second half, out-shooting Millersville 9-0.
• Strickland improved upon her PSAC-leading goal total in the game's 24th minute with a smash from the top of the circle off a penalty corner insert pass from Bri Harsh. The goal was a breakthrough on the fourth of Millersville's five corners in the quarter.
• Millersville's lead held up fewer than three minutes into the third quarter. Valerie Van Kuijck assisted on Jaszczak's 13th tally of the season. Van Kuijck and company continued to pour on the pressure, firing four more shots at the Marauders' defense before the end of the quarter. That continued into the fourth, and after 2:30 of play, Van Kuijck found Paige Wolfe for the go-ahead score. West Chester sustained possession, and while 'Ville keeper Kerstin Koons made a pair of saves to keep the Marauders close, the offensive opportunities never came for the Marauders.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Strickland's 17th goal moves her into lone possession of second place on Millersville's single-season scoring list. She trails Dena Gockley (1994) by two. Strickland attempted three of Millersville's six shots. No other Marauder took more than one.
• Koons finished with six saves. West Chester's Tess Garchinsky recorded two.

UP NEXT
• Because the game did not count toward the conference record, Millersville remains in a three-way tie with East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg for second place in the PSAC. Millersville has already clinched a PSAC Tournament berth but can help its seeding with a win at Mansfield on Saturday. The PSAC Tournament begins Tuesday, Nov. 15. Kutztown will host the semifinals and championship.
