Chestnut Hill charges back in final minute to edge Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville rallied from a double-digit deficit to take a one-point lead with a minute to play, but could not hang on as homestanding Chestnut Hill scored on three-straight possessions to pull out a 79-74 victory.

Millersville (1-3) took its only lead of the game after Keith Mency's 3-pointer made the score 74-73. In the first half, rallied from a 12-point deficit to tie the game and then trailed by as many as nine in the second. It was a 12-2 run by the Marauders starting at the 5:34 mark that pushed the Marauders into the lead. But the lead lasted just 40 seconds. Noah Charles scored for Chestnut Hill out of a timeout, and Nigel Haughton scored two more after a Millersville turner. Down three with 12 seconds to play, Millersville missed a jumper. Forced to foul, they sent Haughton to the line, and he put the game away by sinking both free throws.

Drew Stover led the Marauders with a career-high 21 points, hitting 10-of-13 field goals in 21 minutes of play. Justin Nwosu scored 19 points and added three steals.

After tying the school record for 3-pointers made earlier in the week, the Marauders made just 6-of-19. Chestnut Hill torched the nets for 57.1% shooting, and the Griffins drilled 19-of-28 shots in a 44-point first half.

Despite Chestnut Hill's hot shooting, Millersville trailed by just three points at the break. Nwosu and Stover both scored 12 points in the first half.

The win evened Chestnut Hill's record to 2-2, and it has beaten PSAC East teams in the last two games.
