ABOUT THE GAME

  • Wednesday's match-up between No. 5 Millersville and No. 1 Shippensburg will play a significant role in both teams' NCAA Tournament hopes. Millersville is 7-0 at home, and Wednesday marks its final regular season home game. Millersville has outscored opponents 29-10 at Biemesderfer Stadium this season. Millersville is 18-1 at home over the last two seasons and has won eight in a row. Shippensburg is 6-0 away from its home field.
  • Statistically, the Millersville and Shippensburg are evenly matched. The Raiders have scored 47 while Millersville has scored 45, and both teams have allowed 15 goals.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville started the season 4-0 against top-10 opponents but has since dropped its last two, and the Marauders are 2-2 in their last four games. All three of Millersville's losses are by one goal and two have been in overtime. Millersville was shut out in its two most recent losses and scored a total of one goal in the three defeats. Millersville, however, held an advantage in shots in all two of three losses, out-shooting Kutztown 12-4 and Frostburg State, 20-10.
  • Kate Strickland ranks third in Division II in goals per game (1.00), and her 15 are four shy of the school record set by Dena Gockley in 1994. Strickland has scored the most goals by a Marauder since Katie Zapp tallied 16 in 2014. Strickland started the season by scoring at least one goal in the first seven and a goal in 10 of the first 11. She has not scored in the last two games. Millersville is 1-3 when Strickland does not score a goal, but in that one win, she assisted on both goals.
  • Pili Zaballa scored the game-winner for Millersville at IUP, and she now has a goal and two assists in the last three games.
  • Millersville last nine goals have been scored by seven different players.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS

  • After suffering its lone loss of the season on Oct. 11 against Kutztown (4-1), Shippensburg has won four in a row including three on the road and has won those games by a combined score of 14-4. The recent four-game winning streak includes a win at West Chester, which was ranked No. 1 at the time. The Raiders are now No. 1 in Division. That's a familiar spot for the Raiders as they've won four of the last five NCAA Championships. Shippensburg is 32-1 over its last two seasons.
  • The Raiders are led by the duo of Agus Garibaldi and Tess Jedeloo. Both Raiders have scored 11 goals. Garibaldi ranks fourth in the PSAC in points (2.08 per game) and Jedeloo is tied for seventh (1.77).
  • Goalkeeper Lindsay Tripodo was All-PSAC Second Team last season and ranks third in the PSAC in goals against average and fourth in saves percentage (.810).

SERIES HISTORY

  • Millersville hosts Shippensburg at Biemesderfer Stadium for the first time since 2019. Since Shelly Behrens took over at Millersville in 2008, six of the 29 meetings have gone to overtime and 21 of the games have been decided by one goal. Two of the last four meetings have been decided in overtime, with Shippensburg winning both. Shippensburg won both meetings in 2021, including a 2-1 overtime win in the PSAC Semifinals. Millersville's last win over the Raiders came by a 2-1 score in 2019. Shippensburg has won the last three matchups at Biemesderfer Stadium (1-0 in 2016, 2-1 in 2017 and 2-1 (OT) in 2019). Millersville's last home win against Shippensburg was in the 2014 NCAA Tournament--a game that went to double overtime.
  • The Last Meeting: Shippensburg 2, Millersville 0 (Oct. 12, 2021): Millersville took a 1-0 lead in the third quarter on a Hannah Brown goal, but the undefeated Raiders scored with 6:35 remaining to force overtime, and the nation's leading scorer, Jazmin Petrantonio, put Shippensburg in the PSAC Championship game with a goal off a penalty corner for a 2-1 Raiders win.
