FROSTBURG, Md. - Millersville field hockey bounced back from its first loss of the 2022 campaign with a definitive 5-0 shutout of Maryville in Sunday's neutral site match-up.
Codi Bollinger led the Marauders with two goals scored while
Kate Strickland scored her team-leading 11th of the season, and
Kristin Strijdom and
Emma Ruley each added one. Two of the Marauders' goals came on penalty strokes, and Strijdom and Strickland both converted chances.
Millersville held a 30-2 advantage in shots, and held Maryville without a shot until the third quarter. Of those 30, shots, 18 were placed on goal. Millersville also totaled 22 penalty corners, including 14 in the first half.
Millersville led 2-0 at the half on goals from Bollinger and Strijdom and increased the lead at the end of the third quarter on Ruley's second goal of the season. Bollinger and Strickland added fourth-quarter tallies.
Kerstin Koons,
Sarah Crysler and
Jacinta Bravo Mosso shared time in goal for Millersville and combined to make two saves.
The game was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
