ABOUT THE GAME

  • The biggest game of the early-season PSAC schedule comes to Biemesderfer Stadium Wednesday night as the No. 4-ranked and 8-1 Millersville Marauders host 8-0 and No. 1-ranked West Chester in a PSAC match-up. Millersville is 5-0 at home and already own four wins over teams that spent time in the NFHCA top 10. West Chester has earned its No. 1-ranking as the most statistically dominant team in the country, and it holds five wins over ranked teams. Both teams were recently tested on the road as Millersville dropped its first game of the season Saturday at Frostburg State in overtime, and West Chester is coming off back-to-back overtime wins over Kutztown and IUP.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville has posted four shutouts in its last six games and ranks sixth nationally in scoring margin at plus-2.63. The Marauders have been outstanding at drawing opportunities, ranking second in the nation with 15.2 penalty corners per game. The Marauders, however, have not been as successful capitalizing on those corners, ranking sixth nationally in scoring average with 33 goals scored. On Saturday and Sunday against Frostburg State and Maryville, the Marauders totaled 50 shots and 44 corners but scored six total goals.
  • Kate Strickland has emerged as one of the top offensive players in Division II as she ranks third nationally and first in the PSAC in goals per game (1.22). Strickland has scored a goal in all eight of Millersville's wins and has three two-goal games. She's scored 21 goals in her last 26 games dating back to last season. She's tied for 12th in career goals scored despite having played in just 46 career goals. Her 11 this season tie her for 10th-most in a single-season, and she can move into a tie for sixth with one more.
  • Codi Bollinger is coming off a two-goal game against Maryville and now has four goals in her first season.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS

  • West Chester is coming off a national runner-up finish in 2021 and has rolled through its first eight games, outscoring teams by an average of 4.5 goals per game. However, after allowing just two goals in the first five games, the last three opponents have managed five goals--three of which were scored by Kutztown on Oct. 1. Still, West Chester leads the country in scoring average at 5.38 goals per game.
  • If there is a chink in the armor, it could be West Chester's .696 save percentage, which ranks last in the PSAC. West Chester has surrendered just 41 shots all season (while recording 232) but has made just 16 total saves. Still, West Chester has allowed more than one goal in a game just once all season.
  • West Chester features a balanced scoring attack with a trio of players tied for the team lead with seven goals. The group includes Valerie van Kuijck, Claudia Jaszczak and Jasmine Miller. Van Kuijck is the PSAC leader with nine assists. Ten players have at least 11 points.

SERIES HISTORY

  • West Chester has won the last five games in the series including four in a row via shutout, outscoring the Marauders 10-1 in the recent winning streak. Since 2013, the series is an even 9-9 split. No team has scored more than three goals in a game during that span and 10 of the games have resulted in a shutout. Six of the last 18 games have gone into overtime. West Chester has won the last two overtime games as well as two in a row at Biemesderfer Stadium.
  • The Last Meeting: West Chester 1, Millersville 0 (Sept. 29, 2021): No. 4 Millersville and No. 2 West Chester played to a scoreless deadlock through 59 minutes, but with just 40 seconds remaining in regulation, Emma Velez scored off a penalty corner to give the homestanding Golden Rams a 1-0 victory. West Chester overcame an aggressive Millersville start by holding a statistical advantage over the final three quarters. After Millersville out-shot West Chester 5-0 in the first quarter, West Chester held a 16-3 edge in shots and a 10-1 advantage in corners over the final three 15-minute sessions.
    • West Chester put significant pressure on Millersville freshman goalkeeper Kerstin Koons, who finished with a career-high six saves.
