ABOUT THE GAME

  • Millersville returned to the field after more than 600 days away from competition, and it couldn't have gone much better. The Marauders rolled to a one-sided 7-0 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. That was the start of a six-game homestand, and it continues this week with three non-conference home games in five days. First, Millersville hosts Frostburg State on Wednesday. The Marauders then play a back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday against Limestone and Converse.
  • So far this season, only two other PSAC teams have scored at least seven goals in a game. Kutztown has done it twice, and Shippensburg scored seven against Coker. Millersville and Kutztown are the only teams to score at least seven goals and post a shutout. Millersville is one of four PSAC teams to post a shutout this season.
  • Millersville is looking to start 2-0 for the seventh time in the last eight seasons. Millersville has opened the season with back-to-back shutouts just five times (2019, 2014, 1980, 1971, 1950).
We are a different look, a new look, and we are good. We did a lot of good things (vs. St. Thomas Aquinas). For the young players, there are things you don't know until you know, so getting experience helps us."
Shelly Behrens, Millersville head coach

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Bri Harsh opened the season in grand fashion, scoring a hat trick in her Millersville debut. Dating back to 2019, it marked the second hat trick by a Marauder in a span of four games. Emma Boutcher performed the feat on Nov. 2, 2019 against Seton Hill. A Marauder has scored a hat trick in each season since 2015, but a three-goal game has happened twice in a season just once in that time frame. Nadia Berardelli and Aliza Mizak did it in back-to-back games to start the 2018 season. Harsh was one of three PSAC players to score three or more goals in one game during the opening week of the season.
  • Of the five Marauders who scored goals against St. Thomas Aquinas, four recorded their first goals as Marauders. Keaghan Keracher, who scored the game's first goal, is no stranger to scoring goals, however. She scored 15 in two seasons at Limestone.
  • While the Marauders scored in bunches against St. Thomas Aquinas, they also held up their reputation as an outstanding defensive team. Millersville held St. Thomas Aquinas to five shots, three of which were saved by Kerstin Koons. She is the first Millersville freshman keeper on record to post a shutout in a season opener.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS

  • Frostburg State is relatively new to the Division II ranks, having competed at the Division III level prior to 2019. In the program's first season at Division II, it went 2-18. Frostburg State played four games in 2020, going 1-3 with a win over Mercyhurst. Kaitlin Thompson is in her fifth season as the program's head coach.
  • Frostburg State opened its season with a 2-1 loss at Seton Hill. Seton Hill scored the game-winner with 11:16 left in the fourth quarter. Macy Layfield scored the Bobcats' lone goal.

THE LAST TIME OUT

SERIES HISTORY

  • Wednesday's meeting is the second all-time between Millersville and Frostburg State and the first since 1985. That 1985 meeting came in the NCAA regional tournament, when Millersville still competed at the Division III level. Millersville won that game 2-1 and went on to the national championship game where it lost 2-1 to Trenton State. Millersville went 17-4 and won the PSAC Championship in 1985.
