Millersville loses OT thriller to No. 10 Wilmington

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Millersville dropped an overtime thriller to No. 10 Wilmington on Wednesday night at Pucillo Field. 

The action started just three minutes in when Wilmington (8-0-1, 2-0 CACC) defender Richard Thompson rebounded a miss from his teammate after a corner and scored the first goal of the game. Millersville (5-3, 1-2 PSAC East) responded in the 21st minute of play, when Spencer Shortt stole a ball on the Wilmington goal line and gave it to a wide open Matteo Adiletta for a Marauder goal. The match was back and forth throughout the rest of regulation heading into overtime, with both teams having their fair share of opportunity. Wildcat Tajhay Williams snuck a ball over Marauder defenders in the 98th minute of play for an Hakim William's golden goal. 

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Richard Thompson started scoring off with a goal in the third minute of play. 
• Matteo Adiletta scored 18 minutes later off a Wildcat turnover forced by Spencer Shortt. 
• Hakim Williams scored the golden goal eight minutes into overtime off a perfectly placed ball from Tajhay Williams.

• On the energy tonight: "The energy was really good all game but most importantly we showed our quality and how good we can be. I thought it was a really good game of soccer from both teams tonight. The end was a really bitter pill to swallow but I am proud of the performance and the team."
• On the message moving forward: "Very simply that we have to play at this level every game. We cannot drop our standards and must show up every day with the same passion and effort that we showed today. Everything is still ahead of us and it's up to us to seize the opportunities in-front of us."

• Adiletta led the team with three shots on goal. Aaron Maynard was just behind him with two of his own. 
• Each team had five corner kicks on the night. 
• Wilmington recorded nine more fouls than Millersville, 15-6. 
• One yellow was given out on the night to Yohan Kim of Wilmington. 

NOTES
• The loss brings the Marauders all-time series record with Wilmington to 4-7-2.
