Marauders blanked by Wilmington in dual match opener

WILMINGTON, Del. - The Millersville women's team started dual match play Tuesday and dropped a 7-0 decision to the Wilmington Wildcats.

While Millersville had previously competed at the Bloomsburg Invitational, Tuesday's match was Wilmington's first of the season.

The teams have now played in each of the last five seasons, and Wilmington has won each of the meetings.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
• Back together at No. 1 doubles for the second year in a row, Julie Wallace and Noelle Htwar dropped a 6-2 decision to Larize Nel and Neus Ramos Moreno. Maria Ojeda and Jasmine Morris put up a fight in the No. 2 flight before falling 7-5 to Jess Purdy and Valentina Ivankovic.
Chloe Abramowitz and Aneesa Malik made their Millersville debuts at No. 3 doubles and fell 3-1 to Fenna Swaan and Marley Trifunovic.
• Wilmington also swept the singles matches, winning five sets by 6-0 scores. Htwar, playing in the No. 4 spot, came closest to take a set. She took Begona Gomar to a 7-5 score in the first set before dropping the second, 6-2.

REACTION FROM COACH MATT HELSEL
• Thoughts on the match:
"We're figuring this out. We had a slow start today, which is a death sentence in doubles. But we played much better as it went on. Wilmington is a nice team, a tough assignment for the first match. But we'll learn from it."

UP NEXT
• Millersville plays its home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 22, hosting Jefferson for a dual. On Sept. 25-27, Millersville hosts the ITA Regional.
