MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – In a game that featured seven lead changes between both teams, Chestnut Hill survived to win a non-conference game on Tuesday night against Millersville University's baseball team, 14-12.
Â
Four Marauders—
Jimmy Losh,
Luke Trainer,
Eric Callahan, and
Tyler Wright—each tallied two RBIs. Losh and Callahan also homered as the team combined for 14 hits, but Chestnut Hill mustered 13 hits and battled back to retake the lead each time Millersville would surge ahead.
Â
Millersville senior
Matt Stevenson made the first start of his Marauders career and pitched two innings, surrendering two runs and striking out two Chestnut Hill batters.
Â
The Ville's overall record falls to 22-11, yet the team's 19-8 conference record still keeps them in first place in the PSAC East standings entering the final weekend of the regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•
Jimmy Losh led off the game in style, crushing a ball over the right field fence for a solo home run, his sixth of the season. The Marauders added another run in the top of the third.
Tyler Wright led off the frame getting hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a Losh groundout, and came home to make it 2-0 when
Luke Trainer slapped a ball down the left field line for the RBI double.
•Chestnut Hill took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third off of
Matt Stevenson and reliever
Jacob Paulishak, but Millersville answered in the top of the fourth. Three straight singles from
Justin Taylor,
Pete Vaccaro, and
Nick Mancuso loaded the bases—and Wright drew a walk to make it 3-3. The lineup turned over, and Losh was hit by a pitch to make it 4-3, then a
Bren Taylor fielder's choice caused some confusion in the Chestnut Hill infield, with a throwing error by the first baseman bringing home Wright and Mancuso to put the Marauders up 6-3.
•The game went back and forth, with the Griffins scoring four in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead, 7-6.
Eric Callahan socked a game-tying home run to left field in the top of the fifth, but the Griffins again went out in front with a trio of runs in the bottom half, capped off by a Corbin Dunnuck two-run single to increase the Chestnut Hill lead to 10-7.
•Millersville AGAIN responded to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning.
Cole Friese was hit by a pitch, stole second, and came home on a Callahan RBI triple. A
Justin Taylor sacrifice fly plated Callahan to bring the Marauders within a run, a gap they would close after back-to-back singles from
Pete Vaccaro and Mancuso and a
Tyler Wright double down the left field line equaled up the score, 10-10.
•The bottom of the seventh inning brought more disaster for Millersville, with Chestnut Hill scoring four runs (on two singles and a walk) to push the Griffins' advantage to 14-10. Millersville put two more runs across in the top of the ninth to make it 14-12 but Chestnut Hill pitcher Dan Rockenbach got the outs he needed to end the game and secure the victory for the Griffins.
REACTION FROM HEAD COACH JON SHEHAN
• "It was just such a frustrating game. Every time we got back into it offensively we'd go back out and we couldn't put up a zero on defense. We just couldn't overcome twelve free passes--five hit by pitches--and it just really cost us even though we struck out a lot of guys tonight. We'll get back on the horse and we've got quality starters going this weekend. Just a matter of pounding the strike zone, keeping a defensive rhythm, and we'll be fine."
NOTES
• Millersville batters were hit by six pitches in the game, tying its season-high (which was set last weekend on May 1 versus Mansfield.) Prior to both contests, the season-high was two (which had happened on six separate occasions.)
• The Marauders conclude the 2021 non-conference schedule with a total record of three wins and three losses (including a split with Chestnut Hill.)
