Marauders drop two at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Millersville's playoff hopes suffered a significant blow Saturday as it lost both games of the PSAC East series to Bloomsburg by scores of 6-2 and 8-3.

The Marauders (19-17, 11-16 PSAC East) lost three of four to the Huskies over the weekend, putting them four games behind fifth-place Shippensburg with four to play. Bloomsburg out-hit the Marauders 22-12 on the day.

GAME ONE (BLOOMSBURG 6, MILLERSVILLE 2)
• Bloomsburg raced to a 6-0 lead before the Marauders could score two in the sixth on Gabi Turner's two-run double. But Millersville put just three on base in the other six innings as Abby Wild continued to stymie the Marauder bats. Wild (8-6) struck out 14 and didn't walk a batter of seven innings. She pitched in each of the first three games of the series and gave up just two runs total.
• Millersville finished with six hits, two of which came from Savannah Kolenda.

GAME TWO (BLOOMSBURG 8, MILLERSVILLE 3)
• For the fourth consecutive game, Bloomsburg took the early lead. In game two, the Huskies scored in each of the first two innings for a 3-0 lead. Rebecca Blatt put Millersville back in the game with a two-run home run in the top of the third. But over the next three innings, Millersville managed just on hit. Bloomsburg scored two in the fourth and three in the sixth to widen the lead to 8-2. Millersville loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, and a run came home when Aleese Angelo drew a bases-loaded walk. But Tara Baney, who pitched a complete game, got Faith Willenbrock to pop out to end it.
• Blatt was the lone Marauder with two hits.

NOTES
• Blatt has recorded two or more hits in 11 games this season.
• Bloomsburg owns a 15-6 edge in the series since both teams joined the PSAC East in 2014.
