MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville women's swim team claimed first in four events to take third place in the virtual Vulcan Invitational, hosted by Cal U, on Saturday. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the virtual meet allowed each team to swim at its own pool.
Millersville edged out host Cal U by six points for a team score of 97. Lock Haven took home the overall victory with a team score of 142.
Leah Miksa claimed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.14. Maddi Stoner followed right behind touching the wall in 26.15 for second place.
Miksa was just 0.50 seconds shy of first in the 100-yard freestyle recording a time of 57.86 for second place.
Ilanna Jacobson notched her first individual collegiate victory in the 200-yard breaststroke with a career-best time of 2:41.65. Amanda Simon touched the wall in 2:49.23 for third in the race.
Stoner upped her game in the 100-yard butterfly finishing the race in 1:02.89 for first place. Rebecca Yeager took third with a time of 1:03.76.
The Marauder squad of Yeager, Stoner, Miksa, and Jacobson earned first place in the only relay of the day, the 200 free relay. The group recorded a time of 1:46.63, about an entire second faster than the Cal U squad.
"This was our first time competing in a virtual format and it was difficult to get amped up and competitive," said head coach Eric Usbeck. "The team did well rallying around one another to put forth some solid performances."
Millersville returns to the pool this Saturday, April 3 at East Stroudsburg to take on the Warriors for the second time this season. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
