MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville University's annual celebration of its best and brightest student-athletes, Dining with Champions, is returning on Thursday, April 29 in a virtual format. This year's event features Toronto Blue Jays' pitcher and Millersville alum Tim Mayza as the keynote speaker, a virtual mixology experience with a renowned beverage developer and online auction.
The event is free to join and the online auction opens for bidding on Thursday, April 22. Because the virtual event includes interactive features, registration is required and donations to support student-athlete scholarships and program needs are encouraged. The first 50 registrants will receive a unique opportunity to virtually join Aaron Gordon, a cocktail creator for bars and restaurants in New York City and Miami, for a Speakeasy Mixology Xperience. Registrants will receive everything needed to prepare two craft cocktails including bar equipment and everything to make scratch-made syrups. Non-alcoholic options are also available.
The Speakeasy Mixology Xperience will be held from 7-8 p.m., and awards presentations and message from Mayza start at 8 p.m.
The 2021 award winners are:
Career Achievement Awards: Faith Willenbrock (softball), Eric Callahan (baseball)
Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Award: Ben Fellman (men's tennis)
Community Service Award: Field Hockey
Faculty Mentor Award: Dr. David Henriques
Core Values Award: Millersville Health Services
Mayza was an All-American pitcher for the Marauders before being drafted in 2013. He made his MLB debut in 2017 and has been a key relief pitcher for the Blue Jays since. He is currently in spring training, bouncing back from a season-ending injury sustained in 2019. Even while playing professional baseball, Mayza continued to take classes at Millersville and received a bachelor's degree in sports business in 2018.
The event will be streamed through an online platform. Links and directions for how to log in will be emailed to registrants. All dollars raised from the event benefit Millersville University student-athletes. Sponsorships for the event are also available.
