SERIES LINKS

  • Series: 44-25 (.638)
  • Series Streak: Lock Haven, 1
  • First Meeting: 1957 (W, 6-5)
  • Last Meeting: 2019 (L, 1-0)  | Game Story

ABOUT THE GAMES

  • The Marauders will attempt to bounce back after losing two consecutive games last weekend--the first time such an occurrence had happened since the team dropped a pair of games to West Chester University in April of 2019.
  • Lock Haven has been a feisty opponent for Millersville in recent years. The Bald Eagles have won at least one game in the last three season series, including earning a split in 2017.
  • Millersville's bats are hitting a combined .359 as a team while opponents are batting just .250 against the Ville's pitching staff.
  • Three Ville players are batting above .400 after the first five games of the season: Luke Trainer (.611), Bren Taylor (.444) and Cole Friese (.435). Trainer leads the team in most offensive categories including runs scored (eight), hits (11), and RBIs (11).
  • Junior Alex Mykut has looked sharp in both of his starts in 2021, compiling a 2-0 record with nine innings pitched, 13 strikeouts, 34 batters faced, and a 1.00 WHIP (all are team-highs.)
  • The 2020 season ended before the Marauders could enter conference play, so this weekend's games will be the first PSAC East contests for the black-and-gold since May 4, 2019--when the team split a doubleheader with (you guessed it) Lock Haven University.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

  • The Bald Eagles opened the 2021 season last weekend with a four-game series versus Kutztown University, finishing with a 1-3 record.
  • Two of those losses to Kutztown were by a combined three runs.
  • Justin Lichtenwalner (.364), Jake Mastillo (.357, four runs scored), and Isaac Porter (.333, three RBIs) lead the way for the Bald Eagle offense. Mastillo is the only Lock Haven batter to have hit a home run.
  • Starting pitchers David Keller (5.0 IP, 2.80 ERA, 8 K) and Scott Leitholf (5.0 IP, 2.80 ERA, 4 K) were LHU's most successful hurlers last weekend.
Moving into conference baseball, it's no secret that the stakes are a little higher. That said, the focus has never been about the opponent, rather preparing ourselves to the best of our ability. We will be ready to go on Saturday!
Jon Shehan, Millersville head coach

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS FROM COACH SHEHAN

  • “If you're a Marauder Baseball fan, you know we didn't perform well last weekend. That said, we were able to pull a half-dozen things that we wanted to focus on out of the game film and work through them at practice. Even though it is March, this past weekend we played like it was early February. Overall, we need to play with confidence and humility--confidence that we are able to get the job done in the moment, and humility in terms of the fact that there will continue to be things we need to work on throughout the season."
