ABOUT THE GAMES

  • Millersville is in the midst of possibly its toughest stretch of the season and is looking to bounce back from its first loss of the season. But that won’t be easy as the Marauders take a road trip to No. 6 Indiana (Pa.) on Dec. 14. IUP is undefeated at 7-0 and the program has won the last four PSAC West titles and the last two PSAC Tournament titles. Millersville is coming off a loss to Pitt-Johnstown is playing on the road for just the third time this season. The road swing continues this coming Saturday and Sunday with a back-to-back at Seton Hill and Cal U.
  • The last time Millersville was on the floor was a six-point exhibition loss to Morgan State on Dec. 6. The Marauders led by as many as nine in the second half and had the ball with a chance for the lead with less than a minute remaining. Point guard Jaden Faulkner played just seven minutes. James Sullivan hit 4-of-8 threes and finished with a game-high 20 points.
Adversity is everything within a 28-game season. This is the first time we've hit it in a long, long time. Now we get an opportunity to see what our guys are made of, and I think they'll respond.
Casey Stitzel, Millersville head coach

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Sullivan enters Tuesday’s game needing just six points to reach the 1,000-point milestone. He would be the 39th player in program history to accomplish the feat. Caden Najdawi got to 1,000 points on Nov. 29. Sullivan has averaged 10.5 points per game in his career and has made 147 3-pointers. Four more threes will put Sullivan into 10th in Millersville history. Sullivan also recently moved into 10th all-time in career steals with 137. He needs just three to jump into eighth.
  • Najdawi has scored in double figures in five of the last six games, has grabbed at least eight rebounds in six of seven games, has at least one steal in seven straight and has blocked eight shots in the last three games. He ranks fifth in the PSAC in rebounding, sixth in blocks and seventh in field goal percentage.
  • Jaden Faulkner has totaled 21 assists in the last three games, moving him up to fourth in the PSAC in assists per game (5.4). Faulkner has scored double-figures in every game this season and has three 20-point performances.
  • After starting the season shooting at least 47% in the first three games, Millersville’s shooting has topped 42% just once in the last four games. Still, the Marauders have scored at least 81 points in five of seven games. It can be encouraging that Millersville is 6-1, and based on past performances, has likely not played its best basketball of the season. Nearly the same cast of players shot 75.5% from the free throw line, 46.5% from the field and 35.5% from three in 2019-20. Those numbers are down across the board with Millersville shooting 63.5% from the line, 44.1% from the field and 31.3% from three. Millersville is also averaging 17.5 turnovers per game this season after averaging 13.2 in 2019-20 and 14.3 in 2018-19.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON HAWKS

  •  IUP has been among the most impressive teams in the PSAC to start the season. It owns the PSAC’s highest-scoring offense (95.3) and ranks first in field goal percentage (.542), 3-point percentage (.389) and first in assists per game (19.6). The Crimson Hawks have won their games by an average of 25.6 points per game and have five players averaging double-figures. Shawndale Jones and Armoni Foster rank first and fifth in the league in scoring average respectively. Jones averages better than 25 points per game and is one of four players shooting better than 50% from the field. Foster also ranks second in the PSAC in assists at 6.1 per game. The Crimson Hawks are 4-0 at home. Only one game has been decided by fewer than 10 points, and that was a 90-83 win at Bowie State on Nov. 19.

THE LAST TIME OUT

  • Millersville: Pitt-Johnstown 83, Millersville 51 (Dec. 4, 2021) - Millersville's first loss of the season came in a perfect storm of a Pitt-Johnstown team that couldn't miss while the Marauders couldn't make a bucket. made 15-of-23 shots from the field and 5-of-10 from three, making the Marauders pay for an ineffective start in which they shot 7-of-24. Pitt-Johnstown was also the first team to crack Millersville's usually solid defense. It finished shooting 53.8% from the field, 44.4% from three and made 19-of-21 foul shots. Millersville made 5-of-30 3-pointers.
  • IUP: IUP 103, West Chester 81 (Dec. 4, 2021) - Armoni Foster tied a career-high with 33 points as he led five Crimson Hawks in double-figures. Foster shot 10-of-18 from the field and 12-of-14 from the foul line, adding seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in 37 minutes.

SERIES HISTORY

  • IUP has won the last eight match-ups with Millersville. It is Millersville’s first trip to IUP since 2016. In an odd quirk of the schedule, IUP hosted five consecutive meetings between 2010 and 2016. In that eight-game stretch, Millersville’s highest point total was 73, which it scored in a one-point loss at home in 2018. Millersville’s last win in the series was also its last road win over IUP. That came by a 58-40 score in 2008. Millersville has beaten IUP just three times since 1999 and are 1-9 in road games.
  • The Last Meeting vs. IUP - IUP 74, Millersville 73 (Dec. 2, 2018) Millersville men’s basketball was one friendly bounce away from pulling off one of the most monumental upsets in program history, but a last-second shot rimmed out and undefeated and No. 3-ranked Indiana (Pa.) survived its trip to Pucillo Gymnasium, 74-73. overcame a 16-point deficit to deficit to lead for more than nine minutes in the second half. Marcus Adkison scored 22 of his 26 points in the second half.
