MILLERSVILLE, Pa. –
Bob Hennessey and
Richy Valverde each scored a goal in today's 2-1 victory over Bloomsburg. The match has no playoff imlications, as Millersville already clinched the No. 3 spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East and Bloomsburg was eliminated after their previous loss to West Chester. However, a senior day win leading into the postseason provides momentum for a Marauder team looking to win their third consecutive PSAC Tournament Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Millersville (12-5, 8-4 PSAC East) opened the scoring in the 38' when
Bob Hennessey controlled a loose ball in the Bloomsburg box and sent it into the right side of the net to give the Marauders a one goal advantage just before the half.
Just over 20 minutes into the second half Bloomsburg's Patrick Walsh struck back with an equalizer.
Spencer Shortt, who didn't play most of the second half, subbed in around the 70' mark and created a scoring opportunity 15 minutes later. The redshirt junior sent a shot in from the left side of the Huskies' box that was rebounded to
Jakob Braman, who sent it to
Richy Valverde in front of the net for what would end up being the game-winning goal.
POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON

Overall thoughts on the match: "Glad to get the win on a special day. I thought we played well in the first half and probably deserved more reward, but that has been the way games have been this season. I think the second half we struggled a bit but it was a learning experience for some of our non starters and valuable time for them. In the end we found a way to win and there is a lot of value in that."
•
On senior and alumni day: "Tradition and history is very important to this program and myself. I am thankful and grateful for every player that has worn the black and gold and helped to build our tradition and culture. Today, we all represent the past and honor those who came before us. They laid the foundations and set standards which we aim to not only maintain but hopefully raise. Today was an awesome day to see our alums and share in their memories, stories and achievements."

On preparation for Tuesday's playoff game: "Tomorrow will we recovery and start our preparations and then get a good practice in on Monday. At this time of year it's just about staying sharp and being focused. We've done the work we need to do. It's just about executing on the day now and that is going to be the key moving forward."
