MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Marauders opened the 2019 season in swashbuckling style, scoring eight goals and earning the victory against Salem University, 8-0. Junior Talia Grynkewicz set two school records: goals scored in a game (4) and points scored in a game (8). Grynkewicz did not play in the second half.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• The game was scoreless until the 20th minute. A long throw from Millersville rattled around in front of Wilmington's goal until freshman Michelle Belcher took it on the half volley into the top corner for the Marauders' first goal.
• Nine minutes later, Lauren Downey threaded a beautiful pass forward to Talia Grynkewicz, who stayed onside, got behind the defense and calmly slotted it home past the keeper for the 2-0 lead.
• Grynkewicz then scored three straight goals in a span of eight minutes--the first on a breakaway thanks to a nice ball from strike partner Kay Liebl in the 30th minute. The second came from a beautiful shot from the top of the box, and the third was thanks to a solo breakaway where she dashed past the entire Tiger defense and keeper.
• The Marauders' younger players were able to hit the pitch and showcase their talents in the second half. Michelle Belcher scored her second goal of the game in the 78th minute, while Juliana Carrara and Bailey Hunt added two late tallies to complete the final 8-0 scoreline.

POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO
• On Grynkewicz' great night and her strike partnership with Kay Liebl: "Talia did a great job of creating opportunities and scored 4 nice goals in the first half. Kay's work rate is outstanding. Both of them are still working on connecting more and making things more fluid. They have the potential to do great things and cause lots of problems for our opponents. We are looking forward to watching them continue to develop."
• On trusting multiple freshmen in the starting lineup and off the bench: "The incoming players have done well and have been able to make an impact early on. Experience is so valuable to them so having them earn minutes tonight will definitely help their development."
• On taking the energy from tonight's win and channeling it into Wednesday's match with Kutztown: "We can enjoy the win tonight but tomorrow we immediately begin to focus on the next game. We know the quality they possess and it will be an intense game. The focus will be to continue to work on our organization in all aspects of the game."

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Grynkewicz led the Marauders with nine shots (eight of them on goal). Liebl and Kylie Sullivan each took five shots.
• Freshman Reagan Kolinski made her first collegiate start in goal and made two saves.

NOTES
• 26 different Marauders saw game action tonight. 16 of them had a least one shot.
• Season openers have been kind to Millersville. They are now 8-2 in the last ten openers, including two victories by a combined 14-0 the last two seasons.
• This was the first ever meeting between the two teams.
• Salem goalkeeper Chelsea Cordice made 18 saves for the Tigers.

• The Marauders host PSAC opponent Kutztown at Pucillo Field on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m. The Golden Bears defeated the Marauders 2-1 last season.
