No. 4 Millersville shuts out No. 5 Pace in season opener

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The No. 4 Millersville University field hockey team recorded a dominant 4-0 win over Pace Thursday evening on Chryst Field and Biemesderfer Stadium in its first contest of the season.

The game was the season opener for both the Marauders and Setters leaving Millersville with a 1-0 record to the start of the 2019 season.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Erica Tarsi opened the scoring in the second quarter for the Marauders after Anabelle Tierney drew a penalty stroke. Tarsi lifted the ball into the Pace cage for her 31st career goal.
• Just one minute later Hannah Brown added to the score after a close-range shot found its way to the back of the cage.
• Kortlin Yetter added to the second-quarter scoring by scooping up the ball out front of the cage following Asia Weaver's rocket toward the cage. Yetter quickly found the back left of the cage for the third goal of the game.
• In the fourth quarter, following a penalty corner, Emma Boutcher controlled the ball and found the back of the net in with just under three minutes left.

COACH SHELLY BEHRENS QUOTES
• "It was really nice today. It was a gas pedal mentality for us, just want to go and jump on everything. Go hard, three to six seconds, in everything we did, and I think we did that. We made a lot of mistakes, but I loved our attitude and our adaptability. It's always fun to score some goals."
• "Nothing feels the same as a game. Nothing replicates the game like a game, having the uniform on. Giving Kortlin Yetter some great minutes, giving Kate Strickland some great minutes, Taylor Geisel. We had a lot of first years in there playing today. It wasn't like we just sat for a while and then played them at the end. These were kids that are an integral part of what we're doing."
• "There was just a doggedness to us (Tierney) creates that penalty stroke opportunity which is great. We convert that which is important to do because that can always be a real emotional changer. I think there were a lot of plays 10, five yards in that we were just second, third, fourth, effort and we got some opportunities out of it. We earned corners great and I'm liking what I see with respect for corners "

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Erica Tarsi led the team with seven shots. Kortlin Yetter, Kate Strickland, Asia Weaver, Kyra Brakefield and Hannah Brown got three shots off each.
• Autumn Peters saved the Setters only shot on goal.

• The Marauders are now 2-0 in the series against Pace.
• Millersville outshot Pace 29-4.
• The Marauders held a 16-3 advantage in penalty corners.
• Tari's goal boosted her career points total to 77, moving her into sixth in Millersville history.
