LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Paige Mancini and Michelle Belcher of the No. 15 Millersville Marauders women's soccer team have swept the PSAC East Athlete of the Week awards. Mancini was named PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week while Belcher was named PSAC East Athlete of the Week. It is the first time this season that each player has received the honor.
Mancini has been a steadfast presence in Millersville's defensive backline. She and the rest of the defense, including goalkeeper Reagan Kolinski, began the 2019 season with six straight shutouts, including a 3-0 win against Kutztown last Wednesday. The Marauders finally gave up the first goal of the season to No. 6 West Chester last Saturday, but held them to just that single tally to secure the 2-1 win. Mancini is always a threat to score in the air from set pieces and has two goals to her credit in 2019.
Belcher has been an offensive force as a true freshman. She leads the team in goals with five and total points with 11. The five goals also put her tied for third in the PSAC in that category. She scored twice in the last week, in both the Kutztown and West Chester victories. Millersville as a team leads the conference in goals scored with 23 total.
The team's 7-0 start is a program record for wins to begin a season, and the mark also ties the record for longest win streak overall, which was set in 2003.
The Marauders have a chance to extend those streaks on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. as they remain home at Pucillo Field for a game against Mansfield University.
