No. 23 women's soccer defeats Shippensburg 3-0 to remain unbeaten

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. –  On an unseasonably hot Saturday afternoon at Shippensburg University, the No. 23 ranked Millersville women's soccer team defeated the host Raiders 3-0. The stellar start to the 2019 season continues for the Marauders as they improve to 5-0 (3-0 in PSAC play) and have yet to concede a goal to opponents.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
•  It just took until the 9th minute for the Marauders to strike first. Morgan Winchock dribbled through the Shippensburg defense and tucked the ball away into the lower left corner of the goal to give Millersville the 1-0 lead.

•  Michelle Belcher almost added a goal in the 39th minute. Kay Liebl slid the ball over to her in the box, and the resulting shot forced a full-stretch diving save from Raiders keeper Delaney Shifflet,

• Shippensburg came close to equalizing in the 41st minute. Lee Eubank sent a free kick dipping dangerously towards the Millersville goal, but Reagan Kolinski dove to her right to prevent the damage.

• The Marauders would get some second half insurance in the 60th minute. Kay Liebl held up the ball in the box before passing it out Michelle Belcher on the right wing. Belcher crossed it back in towards Liebl as she leaped to the sky and headed the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

• Millersville made it a three goal advantage in the 85th minute, when Paige Mancini expertly took a free kick and bent it into the top left corner.

POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO
• On the defensive performance today as well as early in the season: "Defensively we have done well as a group. We still have our moments when we put ourselves under pressure that we continue to sort out."
• On the fact that 11 different players have scored for the team in 2019: "Great to have multiple scorers. The girls have done a great job of creating good opportunities and finding a finish. We want to play in a way that creates lots of opportunities so it's great to see multiple people take their chances."
• On the early-season growth of the team: "Our growth has been good overall. We would like to start out a little faster than we have. At times we don't play at our level of expectation which we continue to work on. We want to make sure we get to our level right away and grow into the game from there."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
