Marauders down Shippensburg with one second left on the clock, 1-0

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Millersville waited until the last second of play to score the first goal of the game and defeat Shippensburg 1-0 in double overtime.  It was the Marauders' third win of the season and improves the team's overall record to 3-2 (2-0 in PSAC play.)

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
•  In the 18th minute Millersville earned one of many first-half chances. A free kick deep in Shippensburg territory led to a bullet header from Matteo Adiletta that forced a reaction save from Shippensburg keeper Jacob Zlotshewer.

•  Just two minutes later, Nathan Maynard sent a ball forward that deflected off a head in the midfield and fell right to the feet of Jacob Gosselin. Gosselin had plenty of space for the shot but once again the save was made by Zlotshewer to keep the game scoreless.

•  Another great chance came for the Marauders in the 24th minute. Great buildup play led to Spencer Shortt collecting the ball off a deflection from Zlotshewer. Shortt was staring at an open goal from a supremely tough angle, and the resulting shot was just inches wide.

• Darian McCauley was called upon to make two game-saving saves in the span of four minutes in the second half. In the 63rd, Shippenburg striker Seth Crabbe got free and sent a screamer toward goal. McCauley stretched vertically to push the ball just over the crossbar. In the 67th minute, Crabbe slipped behind the defense and had a one-on-one opportunity. McCauley dove down to the ground to save the shot and keep the clean sheet intact.

• With both teams fatigued and time ticking down in the second overtime, Millersville mustered one more chance. The ball floated in towards the Shippenburg goal, Nathan Maynard got a head on it and Jacob Gosselin finished the job with just one tick left on the clock. The Marauders held a mass celebration at the far corner flag and secured the road victory.

POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON
• On today's performance:
"To be honest I was not at all happy with our performance. We showed a lack of quality and a lack of application and it almost cost us. The only plus was the fact we were still trying at the end and somehow found a way to get a result. Happy to get it but we have to and can play significantly better than we did today."
• On Darian McCauley returning to goal for the second straight game: "He brings experience and much needed leadership. He has been solid in both games and putting shutouts on the board is a big part of our philosophy."
• On moving forward and a match with Gannon on Wednesday: "We have certainly got the right results to start conference play which is nice. Gannon is going to be another big test and we need to be better than we were today. The growth of the team is still very up and down right now. We need to get some consistency in our performance levels. Getting a few injured guys back soon should help that hopefully as we lack a bit of depth at the moment."
