SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The fourth-ranked Millersville field hockey team shut out No. 1 Shippensburg 1-0 on the road Wednesday evening, getting the difference-making goal from freshman Kate Strickland.

The win marks the third-straight shutout to open the season for the Marauders who previously beat both Pace (4-0) and Adelphi (3-0) at home. The matchup against the three-time defending NCAA champion Raiders was Millersville's first road game of the season and Shippensburg's first contest at home. It was the Raiders' first loss of the season.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Persistence paid off for the Marauders, who broke the scoreless tie with just under three minutes left to play in the third quarter. Off of a penalty corner, Erica Tarsi and Brynne Ehrlacher put back-to-back shots on goal and proved a distraction for the Shippensburg goalie as freshman Kate Strickland scooped up the ball off of a rebound and pushed it low into the cage.
• The third quarter was all Marauders as they totaled nine shots to Ship's one and put seven on goal. Autumn Peters, who totaled seven saves, came up big in the fourth, fending off four shots including one off of back-to-back Raider corners in the final minute.

• "It was a typical PSAC battle. They are an excellent and talented team. We both played a hard fought game in pretty hot and humid conditions. For us, we stayed to our plan and made corrections to play what we call tough and gritty MU field hockey. We can learn a lot from today and that's what we plan on doing."
• "I think the result of a shutout is great and a credit to our defense and goalkeepers, but we don't get caught up in that or who we are playing. Ship is a tough team to beat home or away. To get the result we did today, I'm proud of our kids. They dug in and battled against a great team. It is a good win on the road for Millersville field hockey."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Marauders got off to a slow start with the Raiders outshooting the team 6-1 at the end of the first half.
• Shippensburg led Millersville in corners 13-6. With just one corner in the first half, Millersville finished strong and totaled five corners in the third quarter.
•Jordan Goddard defended the circle for all 60 minutes of the game while fellow defenseman Madeline Stehly recorded 52 minutes of playing time.
• Erica Tarsi and Asia Weaver took three shots each while Hannah Brown, Brynne Ehrlacher and Alexis Gazzio each got one off in the circle.

NOTES
• The win marks the first for Millersville in the last four meetings between the teams.
• The Marauders last earned a shutout over the Raiders in a 1-0 overtime game in 2015.
